In the 1970s, James Lovelock put forward the Gaia hypothesis for the first time, which says that the earth is a self-regulating organism.
Living organisms that interact with inorganic processes are known to help maintain the health of the planet, despite threats such as sunlight, volcanoes, and meteorite strikes.
However, the mystery of how this hypothesis works, puzzled researchers for decades. Now, researchers claim, they may have refined this theory.
