Sharapova to Round 16 After Three Fighting Set

Roma - Maria Sharapova continues her move at the Italian Open with a run to the last 16. Sharapova escaped after winning a three-set duel against Dominican Cilbulkova.

In a match at Foro Italico on Wednesday (16/05/2018) local time, Sharapova who had lost the first set first to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Lost in the first set, Sharapova then got up. The Russian tennis player recorded 41 winners in her victory over Cibulkova.

In the last 16, Sharapova will face the winner of the match between Daria Gavrilova and Garbine Muguruza.

From other matches, second seed Caroline Wozniacki won straight sets over Alison Van Uytvanck 6-1, 6-4 to qualify for the last 16. Wozniacki took one hour 34 minutes to wrap up the Belgian.

Furthermore, Wozniacki will face Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova.

Meanwhile, eighth seed Venus Williams had to work hard to qualify for the third round. Venus gets fierce resistance from Elena Vesnina.

After a game from a defeat, Venus finally won 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 over Vesnina. Venus will face Anett Kontaveit in the last 16.
