Learn about the Techniques in playing Tennis

in #tennis5 years ago (edited)

Tennis is a very interesting game that has technicalities which ought to be applied in order to have a great and enjoyable game. You need to be focused, fit and apply the right techniques in order to have control on the ball.

The Fore hand

You hold the racket with one hand. If you are a right handed person then hold your racket with your right hand and if you are a left handed person then you have to hold that racket with your left hand.
Playing the fore hand involves taking back your racket before the ball bounces in order to have enough time to hit/play that ball back to the other side of your opponent. Then swing your racket with a complete follow through(letting the racket go all the way above your shoulders.)

The Backhand

With the Backhand you can either use 1 hand like Roger Federrer or 2 hands like Raphael Nadal. The backhand side can be on the left hand side or the right hand side that is depending on whether you are left handed or a Right handed person. I personally prefer using one hand while playing the Backhand. I switched from using 2 hands to using a single hand as i kept on growing and becoming a confident tennis player. If you are a beginner its better to begin with a double handed backhand because its easier to learn than the single handed backhand.

Serve

The Serve basically involves tossing the ball with one hand and then hitting/playing it with the other hand. In other words one hand does the tossing and the other hand holds the racket. While doing the Serve its important to master its technique. The Serve technique is equated to the motion of a Butter fly. While serving both hands have to flow together that is the tossing hand and the other hand holding the racket. While making contact with the ball, the hitting hand has to be well stretched so that the rackets meets the ball at a good height in the air then smashed and the racket continues in a downward then side motion.

The Volley

There are 2 volleying sides, that is the forehand Volley and Backhand Volley. In Volleys you don't waiting for the ball to bounce. You instead intercept its motion by making a punch/ blocking/pushing it back to the other side using your racket. Its basically making yourself like a wall that blocks and gets the ball back to your opponent's side. You can also direct it where you want it to go. Always volley the ball away from your opponent in order to have more chances of winning the point.

Smash

The Smash in tennis is like a service motion though its difference is that its done within the court and a bit closer to the net. This is played when your opponent gives you a high ball. You don't wait for it to bounce. Simply get your racket slightly above your shoulder as the other free hand points at it in the air. Make sure that your eyes are well focused on the ball so that you do not miss it.
