What is a Tennis Racket? and how to choose an appropriate racket for your tennis game.

in #tennis5 years ago (edited)

A tennis Racket is an equipment used in the game of tennis for hitting the ball. It consists of a handle frame with an open hoop across with a network of strings or catgut stretched tightly. In the early years of the game, the racket frame was traditionally made up of solid wood (later laminated wood) and the strings of the animal intestine known as catgut. Due to the innovations and popularity of the sport, the manufacturers have over the years added non-wood laminates to wood rackets to improve the stiffness in order to create the firmness of the racket that enables the holding of the strings tightly and hitting of the ball. Currently, most rackets are made of composite materials including carbon fiber or fiberglass, metals such as titanium alloys, or ceramics.

A racket has these parts: a frame, 2 faces, well-stretched strings, a handle, and a grip.
Rackets are breakable; oftentimes frustrated/angry tennis players throw their rackets off/ or hit them hard to the groundbreaking them into pieces. Tennis Rackets need to be handled with care. Tennis players have to learn to control their anger while in the match.

What sort of Racket do you use while playing Tennis? Note that every tennis racket has a different unique impact/feel as you’re playing the game. I have felt that way as I have tried out various tennis rackets while playing the game. Some rackets add more confidence to you while hitting that ball because of their great feel and tension.
There are various brands of tennis rackets such as Wilson, Head, Prince and Slazenger. There are junior rackets, those for beginners and ones for professionals. As you go to buy a tennis racket please consider the following aspects:
The Size as some rackets can be small, medium and others are bigger. The choice of the size depends on what size/age you are. Smaller rackets are suitable for the young ones who are around 4-7 years of age. The medium rackets are suitable for those of 8-16 years olds and the bigger rackets as suitable for the 16 and above players. It depends on what size you are.

Let’s as well take a look at these further important aspects that you need to consider while choosing a Tennis racket to use:

Head size

Choose a racket with a larger head size as this type has a larger sweet spot. A larger sweet spot is very useful for beginners just because such a person still needs to develop his technique over time. With a larger head size, a beginner person finds it easier to get the ball in regardless of his wrong timing and wrong stroke used.

Weight

A lighter racket is a much better choice for the beginners as these find it easier to swing the racket and are able to play for a longer time before becoming exhausted. Heavier rackets are not friendly to beginners as they make it harder to move about with it on the court because their muscles are still developing. Get a racket which is not too heavy and not too light so that you avoid hurting your wrist because of the poor technique you might be using. However, when you grow up and become professional there its fine for you to progress to a heavier racket as you will be able to handle it very well.

Grip size

This is also vital in choosing out the racket to use. A smaller grip size makes you squeeze up the racket handle too much which ends up tiring up your muscles and eventually lead to injury. A larger grip-sized racket is a better choice as this makes it harder for you to use your wrist and make changes to your grip and it’s also very comfortable to use as it allows a full range of motion in your wrist and forearm.

It’s, therefore, a very vital thing to use an appropriate tennis racket when learning the game of Tennis. Using a beginner racket that is if you are just starting out with the game will enable you to have far more success than a racket designed for an advanced player. You will also be able to get more balls over the net and into the court that is if you choose a right racket to use in your tennis game as it makes you enjoy the sport and the more you enjoy, the more you will desire to improve on your game. A tennis racket choice matters a lot while starting out with this game.
