Hummus Restaurant in Chiang Mai - awesome brand new place in the city center

in #thailand5 years ago

Located in the heart of the most frequently visited part of the Old City, Hummus managed to score a building behind the main street (avoiding high rents) but close enough that anyone can find it. This place is absolutely incredible and is going to become one of my "go-to" restaurants for the whole city.

I don't know how you feel about hummus, but for me it is one of my favorite things. Combine this with a central location, extremely attentive staff and management, and low prices, and we have a recipe for awesomeness.

The menu was so cheap that me and my friend ordered with reckless abandon and probably over ordered. If we saw something we wanted, we ordered it. I even ordered something I never eaten before and had never heard of.

The place had only been open for 4 days by the time we arrived and I only knew about it because of some rumblings on social media by the local expat community. We were a bit frustrated at first because it is NOT easy to find this place as they don't really have a noticeable sign on the street. I hope they are allowed to change this because we nearly abandoned our plans to go here due to the difficulty we experienced in locating it. I'm glad we didn't though because even though it is cliche and I use this term all too frequently, this place is definitely a "hidden gem."

*while I now see the entrance as mysterious and interesting, at the time it was a feeling of "there's no way there is a restaurant down here"

So if you like hummus and other "dippy bits" you really can't go wrong here. They don't sell alcohol and after the day we had this was just fine by me and my friend. We did go on to drink a bunch more afterwards but the 1.5 hour break was probably very needed.

All in all we had the hummus with flatbread, the labneh (a rich cheese something or other I had never heard of), the tomato carpaccio, the 5 piece falafel, a roasted cauliflower (which we didn't ask for but was "on the house",) a pot of Turkish coffee and some other drinks and water. The total bill for both of us combined was around $12 U.S.

That's what I call a fine deal. I will definitely return and I sincerely hope this place thrives because it is located in a part of town with notoriously bad food and worse service - and they are the precise opposite of this.

Amazing place!

Was the hummus good? I mean if that is the name of the place, the hummus better be pretty spot on right? I am guessing by the back that you plan on coming back here it probably is. I don't think I would have been able to find the entrance either after seeing that picture of the hallway!

I don't know if i am a good judge of what hummus is good or bad but I liked it. at first i was a bit surprised that there were whole chickpeas in the middle of the plate but it actually worked out very nicely.

I read a while ago that hummus is now the number one condiment in the world.

I'm guessing the menu is probably still being worked on so they didn't want to commit to making it fancy

i think it has a lot to do with the fact that the place has only been open for 4 days (well, 5 now.) I think their prices were really good but I didn't try everything yet, I will likely get around to it eventually because it was one of the better dining experiences I have had in a while.

Thats are really cheap prices. I underatand you why you ordered so much. Have a nice day

Excellent is a quiet place and to share a good talk, I love you always have these attitudes, by the way I saw the cyberpunk movie I loved it although not so much, I have always liked the genre in this way I knew that movie thanks my regards friend always reading you.

oh, i think you are referring to the movie Mute... yeah, i didn't like that one.

The house salad has a brown boiled egg. Is that just the normal brown shelled eggs or something different? I know Thailand has some different food so thought I would ask.

I honestly don't know the answer to that. I think because most of the eggs available in Thailand the shells are brown and people coming from other countries might be accustomed to a white shell and they don't want them to freak out? I dunno... i didn't order that. :)
