Intruso en la cocina - An intruder in the kitchen

Un ruido tenue se escucha en el fondo de la cocina. Un mordisqueo continuo, como quién roe un pedazo de cartón.
La oscuridad supone un obstáculo, no permite ver siluetas que adviertan la presencia del enemigo. El interruptor está muy lejos como para atreverse a accionarlo, y un sinfín de posibles criaturas desfilan por la mente, todas feroces y peligrosas, como posibles fuentes del ruido en la oscuridad.
El gato yace acurrucado en un cajón de la biblioteca, procurando no llamar la atención. El perro no ladra y no está presente, lo que supone que quizá está despedazado en algún otro lugar de la casa. El ruido cambia de tono, ahora es más fuerte. Varias ollas y platos suenan como si alguien los revisara buscando saciar su voraz apetito.
—¿Quién anda allí? —pregunta con voz de autoridad, y un corazón a punto de explotar por el miedo.
El ruido se detiene de repente, todo queda en silencio, y la huida acelerada del gato solo anuncia un ataque inminente.
De pronto, desde el mesón de la cocina se asoman dos largas orejas. Un grito de susto estremece la casa entera. Las luces pronto se encienden, varios familiares acuden al llamado angustioso, y finalmente notan al causante de tanto suspenso... Chatoo, el conejo mascota de la familia, que decidió dar un paseo nocturno para obtener un bocadillo.
Todos ríen a carcajadas, una gran anécdota para contar al amanecer.

A faint noise is heard in the back of the kitchen. A continuous nibble, like someone gnawing on a piece of cardboard.
Darkness is an obstacle, it does not allow us to see silhouettes that warn of the presence of the enemy. The switch is too far away to dare to operate it, and an endless number of possible creatures parade through the mind, all ferocious and dangerous, as possible sources of noise in the dark.
The cat lies huddled in a library drawer, trying not to attract attention. The dog does not bark and is not present, which means that it may be torn to pieces somewhere else in the house. The noise changes tone, now it's louder. Several pots and plates sound as if someone were checking them to satisfy their voracious appetite.
-Who's there? -he asks with a voice of authority, and a heart about to explode with fear.
The noise stops suddenly, everything is silent, and the cat's accelerated flight only announces an imminent attack.
Suddenly, two long ears appear from the kitchen counter. A shriek of fright shakes the whole house. The lights soon go on, several relatives come to the distressing call, and finally notice the cause of so much suspense... Chatoo, the family's pet rabbit, decided to take a night walk for a sandwich.
Everyone laughs out loud, a great anecdote to tell at dawn.
