The other one I have from the Olivier in the eighties is this one that I needed to queue up for. A "stand-by" (the red overprint) is when you turn up a little while before the show starts and wait to see if anyone returns their tickets. So I don't know how much I paid for this, but I doubt it was £8.00 - I expect I went up to London on spec to see what I could see. In those days my trips to London usually started with a trip to WH Smiths on Waterloo Station to read the listings in Time Out and then if I needed to (not in the case of a Southbank Show obvs) a quick look at the A-Zs to check where it was - all without being spotted by staff and told off for using the place as a library.

This was a matinée performance of Threepenny Opera starring Tim Curry as Macheath. I loved the music, but I'd only heard German recordings before so it was a bit weird hearing it in English.
