Buddy Up. Word of the Week. Critical-Thinking

The Hive Critical Thinking

Howdy folks'.

Buddy Up Monday is here again and this week's word is Critical-Thinking. I like Monday's more than most maybe, cause on Monday I do not have to think of something to write about. It gets provided for me. I only have to think about what I will write about that word. When you think about it. That saves a lot of time filtering through words for something to write about. Everyone is welcome to write a post about the word Critical-thinking, post it early on Monday, and present it at the Buddy Up server in Discord. A new word is announced at the end of the show, which normally lasts an hour to 90 minutes. I stay for an after chat if one is going on. https://discord.gg/3d5H3K8

Disclaimer. I do not know what I am going to write before it is written. What is wrote here is purely my interpretation. Through the post I will attempt to break down the words and show a process of critical thinking.

Critical-Thinking

Critical thinking WTF? What a load of bollox. Making up a phrase so someone can have a title as expert. Like we need an expert critical thinker. I am not going to look this word up like I have done the others, before I wrote about them. Going to try this one off the cuff so to speak on my own thinking.

To start when I hear critical, I think straight away about a hospital. Some poor bugger laying on a bed with tubes electronic tags going everywhere. The reason he is there I have no idea, that is what comes to mind first though.

Haha. On the thinking part of things. I just had a warped thought. You know that Bambi story. For some reason I thought about Bambi and the mother deer that I do not know the name of. Well anyways, It made me think of a joke.

Why are deer always having parties?
Their mother is always telling them to DoE. Do E = doe
Okay, well it was funny in my head when I thought of it.

Another way I view critical would be some machinery with a missing part. It would be critical to have that missing piece to make it work.

There is also a review of something, that something might even be this post. You have a critical view of what I have wrote here. You may act as a critic and give me some tips or just slam down the post. You might just have a critical view of what I wrote.

After starting this post the way I did, I wondered how I would get to the thought process. It seemed to flow right for that.

Maybe it should be called critical thoughts. Or maybe not, that makes it sound like it is dangerous to think. Wait, in this world we live it can be dangerous to do your own thinking at times. If you thoughts do not agree with the mainstream. There is a good chance that you would be isolated by society to some degree. As an example of this I will say that in the scientific community. New theories are often dismissed and all the views of the originator are dismissed. These theories may turn out to be true later. Before that time of being proved to be true, someone might be isolated from that circle.
Critical thinking may result in isolation, because you do not think along the lines of the mainstream.

Thinking itself I think everyone can relate to they have a thought. The thought does not even have to be original to them. I could do with a cup of tea right now. That is a thought it does not have to be voiced. It is thinking though. The thoughts can be come someone else too. Something said to you may result in your thinking about what was said, (in this case wrote).
Adding the critical to this part, just does not seem right in my line of thought. Some other word should be there to replace the critical.

We start of in life with someone educating us sharing their thoughts to give us a better understanding of the world around us. This in most cases continues to our teenager years. At that point we begin to think we know everything and all there is to know about the world. We have started to think for ourselves and less reliant on the thoughts of our peers. The world is our oyster and we do not even know if we like oysters yet.

My own opinion of oysters is, (although I never tried them) like swallowing a big slimy snot.

That part about snot is not critical thinking, that's an assumption.

Adulthood comes and we need to think for ourself in a whole new way. These can vary for many reasons and I wont go into these reasons. Let's just say we need to survive out there on our own. We need to think about the income we have to the outgoings we have. We think about our budget, I would relate this to critical reasoning. If we spend more than we can gain, our standard of living will not be sustainable.

We are used to people sharing their ideas now and we share ours with them. We enter into hypothetical conversations about the possibilities of anything and everything. (well I did) From the quantum world to travelling the universe. It did not matter if things were possible or not. We explored the thoughts we shared with others and those they shared with us. We let the imagination go wild with its thought and tried to follow every path it showed to us at the time. This is fantasy, it does assist with the development of so called critical thinking. It expands the horizons of thought and shows us options may be available. It does not have to be the way it was in Star Wars.

While we make choices everyday about the things we do. Some choices are made with the contribution of everyone's opinion. Allegedly this is done through a voting system.

So tempted here to go off on a rant about that and the negative value it holds.

Basically we have two different party's lying to us. In some cases the following is loyal and sheep to the cause. Blinded by a feeling of belonging. In other cases the exact opposite happens, anything the opposing party says will be fought on a matter of principal. Somewhere in the middle is the rest of us.

From the rest of us. Some will hear a moral value they agree with and go with that. Take it at face value and think no further. The critical thinking, will listen to what was said. They will then take time to think about things and view them from alternative perspectives. They will analyse the outcome with some varying possibilities. They will look at both the possible positive and negative effects of a choice. They will compare these things against each other.

What is said to them is not taken as is. They think through what was said and come to form an opinion. Some people can do this process just in their head, others do research and calculation on paper or maybe their computer.

If you take the term thinking out side of the box. a critical thinker will try have a peek into many boxes to see what each can offer or might take away. Taking a look at the consequences of the choice made.

My conclusion on Critical-thinking.

Some muppet with someone's hand up his ass, pulled the strings to make critical thinking something exceptional.
The truth is in essence, it takes thinking without bias for personal preference.
The ability to imagine the other side of the coin that does not show.
To break down what someone has said and draw your own conclusion.

It is logical reasoning based on experience or knowledge or both. They just put a fancy name to it, to make some fool feel important. The only application to thinking that I can place critical in. It is dangerous to think for yourself, if it does not agree with what you are asked to believe.

From hospitals to deer, from oysters to muppets, I think you covered the range of critique in your thinking! 😂

They just put a fancy name to it, to make some fool feel important.

And so they can make a class and charge you so many dollars to attend said class in learning how to think critical.

The truth is in essence, it takes thinking without bias for personal preference.

That is rather difficult to practice because often, our experience influence the way we think. But, we can practice because critical thinking is a skill.

very true. However we know when making a choice if it is based on personal preference
