Is it time to give up, yet?

in #theinnerblocks5 years ago (edited)

"Never give up!"
"Follow your dreams!"
"Keep going for it!"

The three mantras, from many, that shape our mindset which often pressurizes us so much that we turn into gases and get lost in the void rather than becoming diamonds.
Yes, being driven and going at it will determine your success. Yes, being persistent will translate to victory. But what if all your energy is being seeped up by the wrong roots, the roots that make your efforts redundant and fruitless?

Giving up is not an option, right? Had Walt Disney given up after his first rejection, had Jeff Bezos given up after his first failed transaction, had Steve Jobs given up on the iPhone and kept pushing on the iPod, had Adele not given up on her boyfriend, had Margaret Hamilton given up after failing her first code, where would they be?

I WILL NOT GIVE UP!

I have read every book there is to read about Disney, I have traced and practiced every sketch by Walt that I can redraw them in my sleep, I have learnt every move he has made in the industry that I can rewrite his biography. I will not give up. Maybe I will after I am done watching this artist who made her place in the industry through using social media.

I have a dream. A dream that some day I will be done with be done ringing these items at the retail store and have my own name etched on the spacesuit going to mars. I will be sitting at my farmhouse with a million dollars in my bank and a partner to watch the sun go down. I will have layer with books dedicated to my achievement and the spacesuit in a glass closet. Maybe I will start on that dream as soon as this lady stop screaming at me.

I will keep on going with her. I will keep going at this relationship because I cannot give up on her. She is the one. No matter how many times she breaks my trust and how many times I get abused I will make this work. We will sit at the porch together and tell our grandchildren how great our love is. Maybe I will, after my 17th scar heals.

Giving up isn't an option. I chosen this path and I have to go at it. I have embraced this decision which has been shoved down my throat by my parents, friends, society and maybe even by the people I do not know.
I will keep going at it because I do not know what is yet to come if I forfeit this and am not sure if I am ready for the retaliation this world is ready to slingshot at me.

I WILL NOT GIVE UP!

I cannot give up. I have chosen to be static. Fluidity is uncertainty. Where I am today is the "end all be all". Giving up is for cowards, but maybe I am more scared of what could be than what is.
The price to pay for higher greatness is way too much than what I can afford to pay at the mediocre bubble of comfort I am at.

You see, giving up isn't accepting defeat. Giving up is not losing something forever. Giving up isn't cowardice.
Sometimes giving up the choice of being pressured liquid in a vacuum tube to becoming a coal under pressure is for the best.
Sometimes giving up on something you are passionate about may look muddy, but it's the end goal that makes it worth it...diamond like.

There are often situations that we falsely believe to happen for the best. No matter how many times it beats us down to the knees we want to believe that standing up again is the right choice, not thinking about changing paths and crawling to where we can stand up once again and not fear of being belted down.
Giving up on something small can lead you to something greater, may it be a slipping relationship, a boring desk job, a passion that has changed it's course, or even your lust for sugar puffs for a keto-diet.

It is okay to let lose of the rope you have been holding tight to. It is okay to give it up when the only thing it does is leave a rope burn and turn your skin blue, suffocate you off of life, the harder you tug the worse it gets.

How you do you know when it is time to give up on something?
When giving up becomes the key to inviting a new reality into your life.

@blind-spot you tell your perspective in such a convincing and honest way. As you put it, there are many times that one should give up. Giving up doesn't have to always be bad. Normally - when people here about "giving up" it's looked at negatively. Depending on what one is walking away from - it might just be the absolute best thing for them. Such as toxic and abusive relationships. It's all a part of the life experience. Learning when to walk away is just as important as not quitting. Just depends on what the subject matter is.

Great post and thank you for sharing with the @ecotrain community. Hope to continue seeing you write with us.

That was the angle I wanted to highlight and I feel that I was successful by your comment.
I honestly think that perseverance is very important, but not with the wrong things.
It does become very difficult to give up on something, maybe it is because of the efforts you have already put in or simply because its a bad look.
Nevertheless, it shouldn't be discouraged.

Thank you for stopping by, and I am glad to be a part of the community.

This can be the mantra of servitude I suppose. It should not be interpreted as a discouragement to reconsidering your path to those dreams though.

For me, it often comes back to the martial arts mindset. If you pursue a technique after its moment has passed, you often find yourself in a less than favourable position further from where you were aiming to be. Time to adjust your course and try a different tactic.

The never quit would be better applied to your will to win and the passion that fuels you.

Good words that make you think. Awesome post.

No, it shouldn't be considered as discouragement. It should fire you up, but not when it encourages you to keep knocking at a door without hinges to open it.

17 scars and the push-pull between keto and sugar puffs - yikes! :) Some really good insights here and a string contribution to the challenge. Gratitude.

I never really use the phase "give up" because I believe in changing my perspective. If something doesn't seem to be working I take a step back and assess. Most of the time we just need more data to make a decision. If we are driven just on passion and emotion then the phrase "give up" may fit because it seems like an emotional response to a situation. I believe in change, like flowing water. Be well.

Personally, "give up" is the first step towards winning a challenge for me.
Very well said, it is important to assess and then reflect on it to see if we need to keep pushing or is it a dead end.
Thank you for stopping by
