Sustainability and ROI

Plenty of people who jump into investments do so with the idea of finding a way to make a passive income. This idea is nothing new, but in truth none of the high ROI investment ecosystem could ever be sustainable. There is a need for balance, and if anything all participants should understand these necessary dynamics.

Studying the Steem ecosystem brings to light some interesting challenges regarding human psychology. The short sighted idea of maximizing ROI at the expense of hurting the system seems to be the daily focus of plenty of SP holders, regardless of the valuation they bought Steem at.

The idea that Vote selling is necessarily toxic to the platform is not disconnected with the fact that Steem presents little to no opportunity for those who prefer to not participate of the social aspects of the platform. Be it as it may, the argument that the ROI is not nearly enough for those who want passive income is also disconnected from the value proposition of the Steem currency itself. In that sense, some investors have jumped into a system with an established design and have attempt it to move it towards a more traditional high yielding investment.

Will this mean the sustainability of Steem has not been achieved. It would seem so, but the culture and sheer quantity of users that still sign up make it to were it very well could reach a point of balance in the near future. As things are now, we will continue to experiment with certain aspects of this blockchain and determine what would be the best way to move forward.
