Jawa Motorcycles Are Back In Town!
I was invited to the launch of the iconic Czechoslovakian brand Jawa's new dealership opening in my hometown. This brand had faded out more than 20 years ago but remained close to heart for many Indians growing up in the late 60s to late 90s.

It was a great event which started off with a Mangalorean style opening with a local drumming group playing some traditional tunes and eventually the unveiling of the motorcycles themselves. It was also fun catching up with some friends, few of whom who have booked the motorcycles and are looking to receive them soon.
Classic Legends a Mahindra & Mahindra Group company under license for Jawa, Czech Republic are making and selling these again in India.
The bikes look great and sounds pretty good too considering they are new 4-stroke engines compared to their 2-stroke predecessors.

A decade ago when I rode my own vintage 1976 model Jawa B-353, I couldn't have imagined the resurrection of such an iconic brand. My dad would've been very happy to see them today if he were alive.
That's because my dad owned a 1985 Yezdi CL-II. Yezdi motorcycles were sold by Ideal Jawa which made Jawa an Yezdi motorcycles in India. The company shut down eventually when the 2-stroke engines couldn't keep up with modern 4-stroke ones produced in India in the 90s.

Our Jawa Yezdi motorcycle club was invited for the launch and as one of the two founding members I was thrilled to be there as well.

They have two new motorcycles. The first is a Jawa (Classic shaped and same name as the brand) and the other is called the '42'-hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy anyone?? You can find more information about the motorcycles here

We took a final picture before everyone started leaving the for their home. Test rides were being given out the following day. I'll be going back to test one soon.
