Thoughts On My Country Nigeria
In every nation of the world, there is a problem being faced by them, this problems are either conquered or tolerated. In Nigeria, there are mostly major problems facing the welfare of the country, such includes; Economic, Political and Societal welfares. But our focus will be on the youths of this “greatly endowed Nation”, Nigeria. The youths, they say, are the “Future Leaders of Tomorrow”, but there has been problems facing the so called “Future leaders of tomorrow” from time immemorial, this problems has so eaten deep into the welfare of us youths, affecting our values, norms and also our welfares i.e. economic, political and societal welfares.
Let’s digress more on the problems. One major issues affecting or facing the youth of this great country, is the level of unemployment menace, which has eaten deep into the standard of living (Economic wellbeing) and cost of living of our youth today. Due to unemployment, our youth have been left to face “The Vanity of life” i.e. they see their lives as worth nothing and meaningless.
The “fame” of unemployment, has also destroyed the norms and good values of us youths. Our youths are now into social vices, and cause or initiator of societal issues of the nation, Nigeria. Imagine, the youths who has been groomed with right norms and values, participating in armed robbery, Kidnapping and all sorts of vices, which is also affecting the image of the Nation.
Another problem, aside unemployment rate, is the inability and incapability of parental responsibility. A parent is that mature adult person that oversees all activities and welfare of his /her ward/child. Not just that, Civic Philosopher has been able to imply, that responsible youths and Nation, are by—product of responsible Parenting.
But in our present country, the reverse is the 300case. Parents don’t show interest or create a special time for their ward, they all focus on building the financial aspect, neglecting the moral upbringing of their wards this imply ; “Building on a faulty foundation.” The bible says and will ever states, “A wise son makes a proud father, but a foolish son brings sorrow to her (Mother) that bore him.”
These problems can’t only be upon the parents and the nation entirely, we the youths also have part of the share, of the causes of our own problems, facing us. We youths, are not responsible for ourselves, we always depend on “Spoon feeding and Manna from above.” We are always waiting for the country to do something for us, therefore neglecting our self – responsibility, and this has brought us were we are today in this Nation. A one - time American President, once said, “Think of what you can do for your nation and not what your nation can do for you.” Until us youths, change our thinking faculty, we will not be able to explore our capabilities for this greatly endowed nation, Nigeria
