Thoughts on last month of the year

in #thoughts5 years ago (edited)

Another day is gone and we are currently living the last day of November just as fast as that. Tomorrow starts the first day of the last month of the year which means we are getting close to end of the year resolutions, new goals and projects and then checking our milestones.

Why wait until then?

We can start improving right away, you can start exercising or studying today and why leave everything until we get the new year and new opportunities to do better. That is truly a bad habit we all have, everyday is a new start and we should try to make better than before but in order to do so I would like to talk about forgiving yourself for not performing as expected, retrospective and new goals set up.

I have failed and made mistakes, but that is totally fine

Do not feel bad for failing, feel bad for not improving afterwards you will always pursue improvement not perfection. A friend of mine who was teaching better coding practices in NodeJS recently told me, do not blame you or your code, it might not be perfect, it might not be as beautiful crafted but it is working code that is in production state, you tried your best when you built it, you have improved over time and now you are making it better so you are doing great. This inspired me because he told me he has trouble with perfection, he wants to push just perfect code, the best of the best and many times he won't move ahead because he feels there are things that can be improved. I'm not saying that you should not make your best effort, I'm saying that it is fine to forgive yourself for your mistakes and failures, get over them and comeback stronger.
Many of us wait until the new year is given to us to start changing habits, routines and specially things that are not o good for us, there is always a chance you will fail to change that but be ok with failure just do not give up. I had to try 5 times before actually quit smoking, I made the same resolution for maybe 5 years in a row, I think I finally quit smoking tho I have smoked few times and fail. It is my desire and intention not to smoke again but if I fail I will just start over again.

Milestones just like @oleg326756's post

They are specific points or stages we want to head to, we want o be there and try hard to reach them. We could probably hit them before we expected which is usually a good thing but it can also never be reached and that is fine as well. It is the process of increasing or decreasing the milestone measure unit, move it closer or further, reduce time frame or increase it, it is living thing that should always go with us. It is like saving, even if you outperforms or do not really reach your milestone or set goal you are better than before, there is nothing bad on reviewing the goal you et and then see what was not good and then re-set the goal.

Life is a constant change that we should keep on adapting to so our goals

I know most of us had different goals when we were kids and as we were growing up there were always things that were delayed or move to a second importance queue, somethings were completely removed from our expectations say they were accomplish or not important or valid anymore. So this point is very important to understand when setting new goal and specially comes handy when reviewing why a goal was not reached or a milestone not hit. It is how life works and we should adjust to it as simple as that.

Forgive yourself, live the present not the past

Sometimes when you have made a mistake you might forgive yourself but constantly keep on judging your present actions and living with that background or past situations, you are the only one that can really do something about that, and it starts on your mind, forgive yourself and convince your mind that you do not want to make the same mistake. Once you get used to recognize you are human, you can fail, you ca forgive and improve it will be easier to get over that stage and live the present hoping for a better future rather than blaming yourself for your past actions.

Awe....a beautiful picture!!!
I never understood the concept of waiting to the new year to start something. Just start now, fail now, and like you say - just start over...right now. No shame or blame- own your part and course correct.
