Thoughts on today and the future

in #thoughts5 years ago

Most of the time we find ourselves day dreaming on how our future live and our future self will be but we are missing the key point. Often we are doing things that harmful to our future self and life by making the wrong decisions or calls in present moment. The future itself does not exists but it is rather just a accumulative of present moments that are built on top of each other most of the time defining what our future looks like and this is just part of universal laws. I've been recently struggling to live day by day and by that I do not mean to go with the: YOLO term or phrase that some might yield when someone judges their actions.
No one really knows what the future might bring but there are certain things that we could use to improve our chances but not taking them for granted either. So imagine that you are able to save $20 bucks a week for the rest of your live and you started by the age of 20. By the time you are 50 you should have 31200 USD's that might not be a lot but that is something you have earn by doing a very small action on your present moment: save $20 dollars a week. That might be doable or not for your current situation but I just wanted to point out that most of the time people will not keep saving because they need the money for present moment or they do not think the future will come that fast.
In the previous example I did not take into consideration the snowball effect tat compounding interest might do and in fact that is something that you earn just by actually doing the proper moves in the present moment.
What can we take from the past?
History repeat itself, right? So why would you make the same mistake twice, or why can't you see the effect of abusing something, call it smoking, drinking or spending money. Thing with the past is that it is over and there is nothing we can do about but learn, reflect and hopefully make the best now for a better future. I used to smoke for 10 years since I was 15 years old, now I know I won't ever be as healthy as I was prior smoking but there is also a chance that my lungs will recover partly and with exercise and healthy lifestyle I can live the day by day working towards a better future. But then, some might just say that something will not affect you, so maybe one little cigarette a day won't kill you, but then if you add how many of those days are needed to affect your health is not much. Spending $5 bucks every day are not going to harm you, right?
Anyways I'm pretty sure you have got the point. But I also want to share this other way of thinking, do as much as possible today for a better future. So why not sleep 6-8 hours a day, why not drink a glass of water before every meal and specially as soon as you wake up. Why not wake up 30 minutes earlier every day so you can make a healthy breakfast, and why won't you take a short walk while the coffee is brewed and toasts are ready? Why not opt out the traffic jam in morning commute by getting to work 1-2 hours earlier? Why not save some bucks and eating healthier by bringing lunch and some fruits from home? Why don't you enjoy some free time in your house in the afternoon given you got out from work earlier as you started your working day earlier? Why not read some book? Do some yoga or exercise? Why not turn off the TV for a whole day? Do you really need to have the TV on all the time? Why not get to bed early as you already had a long day?
I mean if you happen to apply some of the answers to those question every present day I'm sure you will have a great future but not for the results but mostly because you already enjoyed the journey. At the end it will just matter to you and your loved ones but then you will heard people saying: Look at that person he had a great live, he was never angry, he never fought or similar things, but that is clearly an everyday decision that was made for his lifetime span.

I see what you're saying, my friend. There's never a time like the present to identify a behavior then modify it. I prefer to leave the judgement out of it because it just leads to shame. We all can come to our own conclusion about the way a behavior or thought pattern is serving us and we can ultimately make a choice. Will different thoughts or behavior keep us the same or move us towards something we want? I listened to a podcast recently that highlights how our brain changes when we are in lack and scarcity ($, food, time) that prevent us from making forward looking choices. In many cases, It's easier said than done.

Yeah you are right and I've been constantly trying to pursue a future that is yet to come and I feel like I've just started to realize how much of present moment I've been maybe "postponing" waiting for future. Thanks for your constant support and insights in my posts it feels great knowing that it is being read :D. By the way I think this has to do with the books you brought me last time. So for that and more I'll be always thankful my friend!
