Bees knees and emotional pleas

in #thoughts5 years ago (edited)

Everyone is ill again at home with a various mix and levels of complaint, life goes on regardless. We have become accustomed to continuing despite not feeling great or being tired and although not ideal, it also isn't the worst it could be. The current circumstances my family face are not common at the local level but at the global, probably much more so.

Personally, I have taken the position that no matter how I feel, if something needs to be done I do it. I often get the sense that many people have to feel liked doing something in order to get it done. I think this is a poor position because what we need to do to get to where we want to be required change and often the change required feels uncomfortable which means, people don't feel like doing it.

Acting on feelings alone is nonsense as feelings are very easily gamed and hacked by both internal and external sources without triggering a 'validity check' on whether the feelings are actually justified by evidence. But, many feel that the feeling itself is proof enough for justification of behaviour.

I see this a lot on Steem in various ways where actions are driven by feelings rather than evidence. Simple things like the drop of payout values makes people feel it is not worth posting at the time without realising that the Steem earned could be more. This is fine if you believe in Steem and figure you will buy in instead as it might be better ROI on your time invested but, of you believe in Steem and aren't going to buy in, posting and comments are what you likely need to do to be increase your potential.

I also see the quality of posts go down when price is low and again, of buying in that is fine but if looking long and not delivering quality, that is a poor position. Short timeframe sellers need not concern themselves too much though because, they are going to sell as soon as it hits their wallet anyway.

People don't feel like putting effort into their work unless they get paid for it. I find it incredible some of them compare themselves to artists but then, they might feel like artists without actually having the feedback to test their theory. In my opinion, an artist practices their craft the best they can regardless of feedback, especially monetary reward - But that is me. The starving artist stereotype is a stereotype for a reason.

For me, I understand enough about the platform to know how payouts actually work and since I am here to earn Steem not dollars, it doesn't really matter what the payout figure says as long as there is Steem paid in the background.

Because I am looking long on Steem with no clear plans for what that future will bring, earning Steem is a way to guage my progress and what I deliver. My goal is to earn through providing various types of content of value and while not every piece is valuable for every member, the overarching direction is to be valuable to the community as a whole. Through consistent of behaviour, that is achievable.

If I let my feelings (especially my health) direct my actions by only performing when I feel good enough to, I will never act. I rarely feel good physically or even mentally but, waiting for better feelings is not the solution as those may never come, especially if I feel this way because of a lack of various resources.

To me, feelings easily set up catch-22 situations where one feels poor because of a reason that requires uncomfortable changes to be made but, those changes won't be made because one feels poor. A merry-go-round of misery.

Suck it up and do what needs to be done. My mantra.

Sorry to hear illness is doing the rounds again. Hope that work is going smoothly for you. Don't need any extra stresses.

It's funny having Steem such a low value, because you look at the projected earnings on the post and it seems pitiful, but then it converts to Steem and suddenly you've made a lot more than you expected!

I find it funny too because I am earning more Steem now than I ever did at the high prices. Part of this is of course due to the fact that less people are posting and more people are buying their votes instead of egagig and developing. They get the guaranteed return so why work? Well, there is a lot more available than what is just being sold. When eventually the bidbots disappear (change form) they better hope they have powered up because most will not have a community to support them.

"Wow, Matt. It's incredible, you were so lucky to be posting back when Steem was 7c; that $5 post is worth heaps more now"
"Whoa, Steem dropped to 30c; guess I'll stop posting".

  • Same guy.

😆 Hindsight is always 20/20!

The irony is that Steem wise I'm getting the same as I was getting when it was at a higher price. Unless you're wanting to convert to fiat, nothing has changed really in that regard. What I would count as lucky is being here when SBD shot up suddenly, over Steem and it meant that exchanging it for Steem tripled the rate at one point, due to the way payouts convert dollar for dollar with SBD.

Back when you were posting at 7c Steem, that would only have gone in your favour if you got a whale vote, you converted it to Steem and didn't power it down...like some. So I call that good writing and good planning rather than luck.

I agree with your statement:

I am a student of life. And it’s amazing how often people try to influence or change your behavior or attitudes towards persons, ideas or events with emotion triggering statements, which are meant to make you positive or negative towards something or someone before you even interact with them or hear the idea.

This is a flaw in human behavior we should all be aware of. Because it allows people to control you and exert undo influence on you.

I can remember countless times someone has disparaged someone I was about to meet and I went into the interaction already disliking the person. The interesting thing is they can disparage them very subtly by changing the adjectives used to describe the urgency or purpose of the persons visit. It’s amazing how people who introduce us to others and their ideas color our perceptions and opinions before we interact with people or ideas.

Here on the Steemit platform I see people I haven’t met introduced or described in disparaging ways. I can’t help but be suspicious of them after reading bad reviews. But I like the fact that if I look I can find opposite spectrum reviews and alternative views on both people and issues. I try to think for myself and try to remind myself I am reading one persons opinion, which may be valid, but it’s my job to validate it, not simply accept it as true.

As I said, I am a student of life, I am still learning.

I wonder what would happen if bias risks were well taught in schools. Would we be better equipped to see them or would we develop better ways to game the mind.

The interesting thing is they can disparage them very subtly by changing the adjectives used to describe the urgency or purpose of the persons visit.

There are a few people who do this here and try to place unsaid words into mouths and then solidify the swap through repetition and reiteration.

But I like the fact that if I look I can find opposite spectrum reviews and alternative views on both people and issues.

I imagine that one day the BC will be able to have a 'trust score' applied to information that is discovered through AI cross-referencing sources and history. The compulsive liars will be weeded out and exposed to the sun. The projet can go by codename: Pinocchio :)

LOL I like the Pinnochio idea. If only some of the very active flaggers would adopt that, then we would have an objective way to evaluate material on the first read...

I feel like we are harvesting the seeds today to benefit the fruits of tomorrow when it comes to Steem. I have taken the opposite thought process as I believe the bear environment has given us the opportunity to earn more given how stakes have been diluted from larger accounts. This is an awesome opportunity for small accounts to gain influence and earn more Steem!

I wish that more people were throwing their hat into the ring of content competition and giving a decent run for the money but, I am also happy to keep building quietly in the corner too :D

I read your post with interest, I feel a line of tiredness in it and I wish you all the best, I do not know what happen in your life actually but I hope everything will get fine for you, do what must be done it's necessary sometimes also if is not easy, about steemit i am one of those who still post also if the prices are low, I believe in steem so I am still here, not active as much as I wish but i am here.

I am tired but it is only really physical so it doesn't matter too much ;D
Remaining active is difficult for many people, especially when the price is low. I am not active as much as usual because of work life at the moment eating 12 hours or so a day.

Great to see that others are also looking long term, I have also been preaching the same message; we earn steem, not dollars.
Peace.

I have also been preaching the same message; we earn steem, not dollars.

It is hard for many to get their head around as we have been programmed to value centralised currencies without understanding what they actually are or how they work. Time will arrive for crypto though.

I love earning cheap STEEM because my tax liabilities remain very low despite earning loads of STEEM, SBD and SP.

Have always listened to you and made me understand months ago that it is more profitable now than when Steem was actually worth something. It will come back and then we will see those who had wished they had grown realise their mistakes.

Yeah I have seen good friends of mine here on Steemit disappear probably because it is no longer cost effective for them. And yes some folks think with their head while others their heart or combination there of. While others like you and me are driven to write. We continue to see the need and we heed the call.
