Long bears and greying beards

in #thoughts5 years ago

I took this picture in Vienna last week and while he seemed to be a drunk that was shouting obscenities at passersby, I sat down and spent some time to find out just how he got there.

I found out he is a crypto holder... He is 23.

Today it was a very long day at work and happily, I successfully gave my first webinar at the end of a 10 hour day. Three hours talking non-stop is the kind of thing that I am pretty good at it seems. It was actually quite nice to do a webinar, is there a Steem App for them?

Tomorrow at 5 am I am off to Helsinki for training sessions where I get to be the student. I don't mind these either as they really do help me better understand my job and the ins and outs of the system I have to teach to others. Some people hate internal training but I am of the mind that it is all part of the skill development and being able to be very good at what I do in my position opens doors to other points in the future and more importantly, gives me credibility to leverage. It was nice to hear that my session in Vienna went well enough that I am likely to get invited back if things progress.

What does suck however is that while I am getting up and running with the new job, other things are sliding and, it isn't only Steem. I hardly get to check the trading exchanges lately and while I am not a huge trader, I do enjoy the game of it as it is one of the areas that has taught me a lot. Mostly about myself.

I can still recall the feeling of the first big drop I ever experienced where 25 percent of my trading value was wiped away in about 3 hours, all while I was at my in-laws summer cottage in the country and could do sweet FA about it. I was trading with so little that it really didn't mean that much but, the attachment was strong, as was the sunk cost of time taken to trade upward. Of course, the beauty about trading crypto is that, nothing was lost unless it doesn't spring back and since I am looking long, it will always spring back. Probably. Maybe.

It might take some time though right? Much like my friend in the picture has experienced the last 15 months that there has been bears roaming the exchange plateaus, driving any peaks they find into the ground. Time is a funny thing though as it really is relative. A couple seconds is not long, until your hand is held above a flame, a year is an eternity until told that is all the time one has left.

15 months of crypto-winter has passed in a blink of an eye for me when I look at all the changes in my life in that time and especially, how much my daughter has grown. I have to remember these reference points when I think about how ar into the future something is as while everyone wants Lambos now, is two to five years a long time to wait for the value of that Lambo? How much are you capable of earning a year and how much would your crypto holdings be worth if they go 100x in the next 5?

If that 100x happened for Steem, it would put my current holdings at about 2 million dollars or, 400k a year. What do you think i am making per year now? Well, it is less. A massive amount less than that. Of course that 100x might never happen for crypto and it might only go 20x in that time. then my Steem holdings would be 400k or, 80k an year. I still earn a lot less than that a year.

What are the chances of me working my business or salary from my work up to the value of crypto 5 years from now? Pretty slim I'd say. We are often so impatient though that we continually want the future today and are willing to throw that future away if it doesn't arrive fast enough. Yet, many of us can work jobs for 40 years with very little chance of increasing our earnings significantly in that time and if we do, it can come at a very heavy cost.

But, regardless of that potential crypto future, I am never going to rest on that future coming about until it has come to pass. That means that in the meantime while waiting for the institutional investors to start buying big and all of the steem applications and possibilities to develop, I am going to work at more traditional sources of revenue to not only hedge my bets a little but, make sure that I don't have to dip into the asset resources that have th highest chances of the greatest return. Risky? I am not so sure.

What is risky perhaps is spending 45 years working for other people's dreams in the hope that at some point, it will provide enough money to live life the way one wants to live. How many in this world actually manage that result? The odds are definitely stacked against us.

With that write, I am off to bed as getting out the door by about 530 is not really my strong suit and I am still yet to pack a suitcase for the trip and my wife went to bed an hour ago... where my clothes and the suitcase reside.

btw, I have no idea who that guy is. Someone who bought Bitconnect perhaps?

Sort:

That dude would have a story and Bitconnect or Onecoin is high on the list. It is hard to fit everything into a day without dropping a few balls. Sometimes you need to prioritise and concentrate on what is the immediate needs.
Enjoy Helsinki.

He was rambling and shouting a fair bit at times...

Bit.. bit... Bit cooooonnnnnneeeeeeeect

It is quite a nice trip really as I get a night's sleep included , which is rare :)

The founder of Bitconnect in disguise and running from the law?

Ha, I hope that they catch up with him however, those that bought in were warned... At least on steem. Some of the shills are still here.

I found out he is a crypto holder... He is 23.

Assuming that's sarcasm because that dude looks terrible for 23.

I know a lot of people that are more than happy just to come into work every day collect their paycheck and go home. I'm not one of those people, but don't think there is anything wrong with that. I have no plans, however, to spend the rest of my life working and stressing about making someone else rich. I'd much rather work and stress about my own business.

I never spoke to him, he was a spitter.

Nothing wrong with working for others at all but, it is also a risky position and it is becoming more unstable as the job market is affected by automation. "get a good job" doesn't mean what it once did.

Maybe that'll be my next post... :D

Yeah I don't think companies, in general, care about employees as much as they used to either, but I get what you're saying.

Assumed it was sarcasm, just wasn't 100% sure as that's how most crypto holders and traders look.

Safe travels and let us see in 5 years where we all are. We all know working for someone else is not the best thing, but it serves it's purpose.

Working for someone else is not so much of s problem if what one is working on is something that is wanted to work on. Too often though it is nonsense just for a paycheck.

Early mornings: 🤮

Yeah. They suck. Awake at 5:10.

High points and low points it's all part of the process and time rolls on. Enjoyed the picture @tarazkp

When I've whined about this to the outlaws (or sometimes other people as I don't usually talk about this kind of thing other than to be annoyed/derisive) they always just shrug and insist that it absolutely has to be that way and that there is no other possibility whatsoever because otherwise the entire economy would collapse and that absolutely all alternatives bar none are infinitely worse because it just is XD

5am DX that time doesn't exist unless I'm still awake, definitely not a time I'd like to wake up at XD So to clarify the webinar was in the last 3hrs of the 10hr day not an additional 3hrs tacked onto the 10hr day right? Sounds pretty intense either way x_x glad it's your thing as it sounds pretty nightmare to me XD Hope you get packed and ready without waking anyone up and that you got to wherever you need to be with no dramas ;D

5am DX that time doesn't exist unless I'm still awake,

Those were the good old days. Then they were the days of with child.

Many people can't imagine a different world than the one they have lived.

I feel the same way about building somebody else’s empire on our hard work. That is why I continue to focus on Steem as a priority for the future and given the recent improvements believe that value will be accrued for those who help and remained resilient on the way!

Yep. I am not all in on steem from a time perspective but from a hope perspective, I am pretty much there.

Time will not wait, you have to be able to use every moment ... very good blog thank you

Time waits for no man, as the saying goes. But at least in the case of my wife, man waits for woman all the time.
