More than you pretend to be

We are complex animals, aren't we? Or perhaps we are no more complex than any other organism but due to our self-awareness and reasoning capacity, we can openly question and discuss our existential nature and apply meaning past the securing of our next meal. Are we less than we think or more?

Some like to simplify the argument down to the continuance of genes, others like to expand our range to get closer to an all knowing entity. Maybe it is both where the continuance of genes is a necessary requirement to have the time and capacity to learn and improve.

Either way, there is no end though is there? It goes on until it doesn't and if it does conclude, we will not have the presence on site to experience and reflect upon it. We can however put our best forward in each moment and know there was nothing left to give. At least then, there is no question of, if only I had tried my hardest. The question could be though, what could I have done differently?

What brings out your best and what holds you back?

If what holds you back is other people or circumstances out of your control, it isn't them holding you back from being your best. There really is only one answer.

What are you hiding behind and why are you hiding? I am not talking about your identity, I am asking to you, the best version of you. Why the mask?

We tend to want a lot from our experience yet so few of us commit to be our best. What if I try and fail? What if I try and succeed? What then? There is likely no definitive answer to any of our questions because the answers can only provide to the best of our knowledge but, if we haven't tried to understand, how valid is what we know?

Knowledge is not only always limited, it suffers the bias of preference as we choose to learn and know what we want to learn and know. And then we make the assumption we know it all even though we are unable to satisfy our various hungers adequately.

I think too much about things that are perhaps of no importance in the grand scheme of things, perhaps no importance to even me but, I'd rather think through than be told. Some like to repeat the words of others to prove their intelligence without realising they have placed the yoke of authority upon their own necks. While there is no problem learning from others, parroting is not learning as it cannot create new thoughts.

This is where I might end this though. New thoughts. Maybe that is the meaning of our existence, to generate ideas through the exploration of our world in an attempt to carry us forward closer to a point that is unreachable. An exercise in futility but, one filled with purpose.

We will never know if what we know will ever lead to where we want to go but, here we are going just the same.

Goodnight

Being intellectual beings (mostly) I think we over complicate things more often than not trying to influence outcomes that are generally more “destined” no matter what happens. The question is really how we adapt when really needed; but then it comes back to when to know the difference.

This is the question and I find that when you ask people, everyone assumes they adapt well no matter what the evidence of their lives suggests. I find that it is similar with coping with stress, everyone believes themselves adequate when not under stress.

Oh, and thanks for the comment, I didn't think the post was that bad :D
