What would your life look like in a perfect economy?

in #thoughts5 years ago

While there is a lot of conversation around about the Economic Improvement Proposal for and against and with everything in between, I was thinking about what happens if it actually works. Not necessarily this particular model and not necessarily just for Steem, rather at a general level. Discussions on economy are thousands of years old yet, we seem not much closer to being able to find a solution that satisfies us all.

It is very likely that there is no solution of course and it will always be an ongoing negotiation between participants that are trying to maximize their own value, options and capabilities. This is likely the way it has to be because the operating environment is continually changing making any "rule" no matter how good, less fitting the further the conditions shift.

I believe that this is why a decentralized governance model likely has the best change of satisfying the most people as there is freedom of action that is connected globally but performed based on local conditions. As the conditions at a local level change, behavior follows to adapt and take advantage or, avoid disadvantage and when many points are dong this, a flexible economy is created. Yet, to be practical and healthy, the model also has to allow for collaboration which means, trade of goods, services and ideas and to do this, there has to be a common set of rules that parties can somewhat agree and adhere to.

What I think we are working toward on Steem is such a model and due the histories we all hold, there is likely to be a great deal of variation in what we believe will work, even though our experience is limited to what we live and can't take into account the local conditions of others or their pasts. This makes it hard to create a one-size-fits-all set of rules as no matter what is selected, it is going to have varying degrees of harm and good for various groups, and because it will have to continually be under negotiation and revision, the harm and good will shift parties from time to time.

No wonder there has not been much to agree upon for thousands of years. The one thing everyone can agree upon though is that what we have now both in the world and on Steem is not working well enough and needs to change in some way. While few will agree on what those changes should be, the protocol of Steem is the common set or rules that we must all abide by, at least until the next change is implemented. While disruptive, none of the changes are set in stone and will always be part of the negotiation in the same way all economies shift and change over time.

But I have a question, what would it look like if Steem did happen to find an economic model that satisfied all participants enough and had the given flexibility in it to continually change with the changing world? What kind of environment would that look like if there was a high degree of acceptance that the economic model was working suitably at all levels? Hard to imagine at that level?

What would your own experience look like in a working economic model? Would you have a life of plenty? Would you have a luxurious life where your desires are met? Would you face any kind of suffering? Would you have the things you want, the home you want?

What about others in the system? Would they be able to live like you if they choose?

Something to think about I guess.

The image reminded me a bit of the one with "finns waiting for the bus":

It makes me chuckle every time I see people standing like this :)

I think the economic model needs to keep changing in order to get the right balance. if it stays in one spot for too long it becomes stagnant and it needs to change. Sometimes these changes won't be for everyones liking ,but it needs to be tested and learning what works and what doesn't.

It becomes too certain, easy to game and boring. Not much attention gets afforded to stability.

I am still really split on all of this but am open to find something that works but the problem is that it feels that pockets of the community are bot being heard and may lead to unintended consequences (which always happen anyway). Fingers crossed!

Yep, i am hoping that overall, there are more positives than negatives but I am quite sure that regardless, the negatives will be focused on, as always. Toes crossed too! :)

How horrible life would be.
Not having anything to overcome.
Not being able to say, my god that guy is dumb, Whhhhahahahahaha

Right now I can say I am totally into life.
It would be nice to raise the base a little above where it is now. I am all in for that.

I am sure there wold be plenty of opportunity for as soon as it is "good", people will squander it and lose what they have.

Yep, it doesn't have to shift too much to make a profound difference for many people I think.

Good people loose there mind when they are afforded an opertunity.
I never get it.

It would not take much to raise the bar. It would effect billions of people. You have to have poor people in order for the rich to take of for their wealth.

I am watching the England thing. I find it interesting . Loosing my hair again.

Perhaps it is because of inexperience whereas an experienced person would keep a cool head and act accordingly. Maybe it is similar to young kids playing a sport where they all chase where the ball is, not where it will be and then, in front of the goals they get flustered.

Loosing my hair again.

Women love to see a bit of skin I am told.

That has to be it. For so long they have been in a place that they try to elevate out of, and when the opportunity arrives. They just go to far.
Same reason lottery winners are broke in a couple years.
The knowledge is just not there.

You would think that the school system would Would teach money management instead of the other crap.
