How successful people manage their time

Successful people know that time is the only limited resource.

You can make your money back, you can find new friends, you can start a new company, you can find a new job, but you cannot make today’s hours back.

Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever.

They know that time is the only limited resource, and that they have to keep that into account. They can’t buy some more, at least not for themselves.

They also know that time is the only fair resource:

Some people can naturally leverage more money from the start. Some people can leverage great connections from where they were born or the school they attended. Some people can leverage better skills and the right information because they were naturally exposed to them. But we all get 24 hours, and that’s all we get. Time is the only fair resource. So why do we all get different results from using those same 24 hours?

Successful people know that time is the most important resource, because it is scarce, because it is not renewable, and because it is fair.

Everyone has the same amount: you can’t play a numbers game, so you must play the quality game. And here’s how you do it.

#1 — Successful people know the value of their time They know how much money each of their hours is worth. They know that if you only have 24 hours, you’ll always have to find a trade-off.

Is one extra hour of sleep going to make you work better? If so, that’s a great investment that could pay off for the next 16 hours. Are 2 hours planning your week worth it, if they double your productivity for the whole week? Wow, that’s an incredible investment.

On the other hand, is ironing your own shirts or going to get groceries a good investment of your time when you can outsource it for very little? Is spending 2 hours with a “meh” friend worth it when you could spend them cultivating another amazing friendship?

Successful people know that life is a trade-off, and they don’t try to save money by wasting time, they use that time to make more money.

#2 — Successful people leverage other people’s time Successful people know that they only have 24 hours.

It doesn’t matter how good they are at whatever skill, they know they can’t go beyond those 24 hours, so they leverage other people’s time by either having collaborators, employees, contractors, mentors, a team. They also leverage other people’s time and mistakes by using books and information to shortcut their own learning.

They know they can’t do it all, because they know the clock is ticking.

#3 — Successful people know what matters Successful people know the difference between distance and movement, and between tasks and objectives. Instead of working on whatever comes up next, going through emails, or a random to-do list, they know what they want to accomplish exactly, and then they work backwards the exact steps they have to take to get there, and then they work on that.

They don’t get lost on whatever tasks they could be doing. In the age of choice, information, we do whatever we want, successful people know that they can only win by choosing wisely what will bring actual results. Because that’s worth their time.

In summary, successful people don’t spend their time, they invest their time.

They make sure that however they spend that minute, that one hour, they will get a return in the future in terms of memories, business growth, money, knowledge, experience, and confidence
