END OF MAY: Mrs May Officially Stands Down As PM... But Who Will Replace Her?

PRIME Minister Theresa May will today end her role as Conservative Party Leader and will officially stand down.

The embattled 'copper lady' who failed to deliver Brexit will carry on as a 'caretaker' Prime Minister for a few weeks whilst the Tories hold a hotly anticipated leadership contest that's set to kick-off later today.

The main runners and riders include former Home Secretary Boris Johnson, his successor and former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt - both of whom have the backing of President Trump and then there is the little man snubbed by POTUS - that's chief backstabber, Micheal Gove, who's already signalled he will delay Brexit beyond October 31st if he becomes PM.

Other contenders for the Tory crown include Home Secretary Sajid Javid, Health Minister Matt Hancock, Andrea Leadsom, Esther McVey, Dominic Raab and Rory Stewart.

May will officially stand down by writing a letter to heads of the influential1922 Committee that wields enough power to elect and dispose of leaders.

The leadership race will begin at 5 pm today with a 'call for candidates and official nominations will open at 10 am on Monday and close at 5 pm on the same day.

A new Prime Minister and Tory Leader is expected to be in place by July 22 after a postal ballot of 120,000 registered Tory Members.
