An old BMW

in #travel5 years ago

Hello,

Over 12 years ago, as Romania has entered the EU, I made my first real estate investment abroad.

At that time, I was planning to stay in the same city with my parents and work in some development department in some of the many factories that are there.

As we lived some 25km to the Hungarian border I bought a house 6 km away from the border. So with the price of now 1,5 square meters in Munich, I bought 1600 square meters of land and a 100 square meter house.

Not a bad deal at that time, as in Romania the prices were 3-4 times higher. The plan was to stay there and cross the border on a daily basis.

Time passed, I never got the chance to live there as I moved to bigger cities with different views.

I was yesterday there as my neighbour is taking care of the house. He uses the garden for his cars as he is a mechanic. The region is economically vulnerable and most of the people travel to Romania to work. A thing that was not imaginable 10 years ago. Now it is daily business.

So I was at my neighbour there yesterday to pick up some chicken meat, as I give every year some chickens to grow and we split them.

I saw this old BMW he works on for his nephew. It is one of the hobbies they have in here. Getting cheap cars and prepare them for racing. Last year they had a Lada from the 80s but this German beast is much better as it is lighter and more powerful. I was happy to see them still chasing their hobbies.

What did you do yesterday?

As you know, I am a genuine gearhead that loves this sort of thing. It's a pretty good looking racer. Good luck to them.

I see the castrol contingency sticker. Back in the day we got support money from Penzoil. Not that we ran Pen, but they sent us clean empty 2.5 gallon containers to pour our oil into and then use them at the track. They didn't care that we didn't use their oil, just that it LOOKED like we did :) I've filled many a 2.5 from a drum in our shop...

Thank Alex. I actually had a short drive in a Polaris RZR (desert buggy) yesterday. Hauling garbage out of the desert.
