Visiting a Castle called a Schloss in Germany

Our last day on The Romantic Day started early so we had time to walk up to the Schloss for a scheduled tour. This is the Schloss Neuschwanstein that Ludwig 11 built. To be more precise, Ludwig had not quite finished this Schloss when he died in 1886. I am told that the government then took the Schloss over, finished the building job and at the same time very quickly opened it up to the public.

The group calculated that the Schloss has been viewed by trillions of people over the last 150 years or so. We also thought that Ludwig not only provided a beautiful artistic Schloss to the Bavarian people, he also boosted the economy with jobs and tourist money over the years.

Ludwig left a great legacy!

Cameras were not allowed inside the Schloss during the tour – the king’s compartments, servant quarters and throne room etc were magnificent and the only part of completed when Ludwig died.

Check out the Schloss, it is probably the most visited Schloss in Germany.

Now, this post would not be complete on Stemmit without sharing a photo of Ludwig 11. It is was snapped in his Schloss but in the hotel room of the nearby town called Fussen. We stayed a night in this very funky hotel with very creative but small rooms. This photograph of Ludwig was a little bit scary because it took up the whole room and in from to the bed - picture it - it was Ludwig looking and us staring each other down.
