Lunch at Elephants Hall!

in #travel5 years ago

The Kruger National Park is very impressive when you survey its wide open African immense wilderness.

Glad to get to Elephant Hall:

We didn’t go into the actual Letaba Camp lodging area.

Driving into the tourist parking area, we first looked to see where the toilets were. And to get to them we had to go through the restaurant. It looked a very prestige restaurant, possibly because the men quietly and seriously chatting at their tables looked like businessmen rather than tourists.

A humble lunch:

And coming out of there, we re-parked closer to the river where we planned to eat our lunch in more peacefully setting. And our lunch consisted of more food out of our car’s boot.

But we enjoyed it all the same, knowing that it didn’t cost us `an arm and a leg’, if we had been sitting down in the extravagant restaurant!

Driving for so long in the car, we so needed to stretch our legs, so after we had eaten, we went sightseeing…

Along the Letaba River:

There was a railing and a steep bank bordering the river, so you can’t get right down to the river edge.

But standing up there high above the river plains, we are blown away by the vastness and ambiance of the scene before us. An amphitheater of African splendour!

Nothing like what the map shows:

And the fact there wasn’t much water in the river, seemed a shame. You could see the furrows in the sand banks that at some time or other, there must have been mighty floods of water to cause all that erosion in the low lying areas.

It's breath taking, when you see this stitched together elongated image, stretched across the whole of your computer screen!

It looked so empty at first:

But looking more carefully we saw a lone elephant in the distance to our left. So I zoomed in with my camera. And saw him moving around and speculated what he was about?

Then looking straight in front of us, there were a few waterbuck aimlessly wondering over the lowlands:

The scene was so impressive and vast, we stood there mesmerized for some time. Oh well, turning, we thought we better see…

What the Elephant hall had in it?

There is a special tourist building where you can check out things about the area and the elephants. Sorry, I don’t have any photos of that to show you. But it’s interesting all the same.

Getting back into our car we moved out of Elephant Hall (Letaba Camp) area.

Now on the road to Mopani Camp:

We didn’t see much either, but along the way we came across a herd of buffalo on the left side of the road. Well below the road to be correct. And see one of the bulls is checking us out. So they were aware of us too.

To me, they just looked like a herd of domestic cattle peacefully grazing. And no lions in sight at all! And no drama to entertain us!

I thought why do people think they’re so fantastic? They look so scruffy! But of cause they are dangerous. If they had to charge you, those horns would make a real mess of you!

Next travel blog:

Will cover what we did and saw at the Mopani Camp.

Wao so great today you again going to kruger park. It is best adventure for you and your family. Kruger park is most famous and beautiful park in the world. I really like to see animals. Deers are looks so beautiful. Elephants looks so wonderful. Cows are so cute animals. I m so enjoying your traval. Thanks for sharing.@artguru.

I chuckled when you said the buffalo cows look cute. Yip, they do look so tame don't they?!
You see we used to own a small farm and had cows. So that is why I looked at those buffalo and saw them as just domestic cattle.

As i see the images of krungar national park, my memories goes back in to the Deosai national park, where i visited before 6 months ago with my loving cousins.
Unfortunatily my one cousin is doed in road accident after the 2 months of our tour. This is shocking for us. When i think about Deosai national park. I see my cousin infront of my eyes. 😓

I'm very sorry for your loss.
I dear friend of ours was hit by a car at the robot intersection by where we live. Her body was flung high against the high school precast wall. It was so bad, that her body was in pieces. We were so shocked too. Still can't comprehend it!
So I really appreciate what you are saying and feeling.

The power of nature

The way you are showing us this amazing zoo. it is increasing our interest to visit. I will surely visit this zoo whenever i visit your place.

Kruger National Park isn't a zoo. It's many miles of open space just for wild animals to roam freely in South Africa.

Ahaan, That's great! Hope these wild animals won't harm anyone.

This game reserve looks amazingly unique and attractive to alot of wild animals and beautiful scenery . The photos looks lovely and beautiful as well @artguru
