in #travel6 years ago (edited)

We're talking Venice. The City of Bridges. Walking around this place is unforgettable. Flourishing in the middle-ages and renaissance, it was the main maritime trade center of it's times. It consists of over a 100 small islands and over 400 bridges. As a historical city with it's uniqueness of architecture and artwork - it's no surprise that it became the Unesco World Heritage Site. Let's have a look.

St.Mark's Basilica is a cathedral complex built around 1063 AD and it's located in Piazza San Marco - St. Mark's Square, which is a main square of the city. The golden mosaics of the church's interiors are only one of the things worth seeing there. The square itself hosts many other architectural gems like the Clock Tower or the marble lions at Piazzetta dei Leoncini and it's no wonder that it is a central and vibrant place of city's tourism and all kind of other activities.

And last, but not least - the classics of Venice - the gondolas! The traditional Venetian flat bottomed boats are not only present here - it is a prosperous local business. The rowers, called the 'Gondoliers' have to be accredited by Gondoliers' Guild which makes it a live profession that goes hundreds of years back and it is preserved to modern times and even flourish as such. As the gondolas are still a valid and important way of transportation around the city - the Gondoliers are always busy. And the tourists loves it! It is a memorable experience to travel on the canal waters on the oar-propelled boat that tradition remembers the times of old. The boat trip like that - it lets the visiting experience be richer and it adds a different perspective to the city... and to your photos.
