Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada massif, on the border of the US states of California and Nevada, 30 km west of Carson City. The lake has an area of 500 km2, it is 35 km long and 19 km wide, it is 1 897 m above sea level, and the largest depth is 501 m. Tahoe filled with water a lot of small streams and rivers, and its waters sail through the Truckee River to the Pyramid Lake, about 100 km northeast. Tahoe is the largest tectonic lake in the United States, surrounded by high mountain peaks, which are often under the snow, which contrasts with the deep blue waters of the lake, and green forests around its shores.

Source: Tahoe Lake was formed about 2 000 000 years ago, as part of a much larger lake, its present form was obtained during the last ice age. Jazero Tahoe as well as the nearby forest next to it, today are a large recreational park. The first American to reach the lake was the officer and researcher John C. Frémont during his expedition to California in 1844. The lake was named after the word of the Indian, meaning "lake shore".

The legend says that the evil spirit persecuted an innocent Indian. Then the Great Spirit, in his desire to help, gave him one branch with lots of leaves, so that while he was running he would throw leaves behind. From the leaves, a lake would be created, which the evil spirit had to cross. When he saw the evil spirit, the frightened Indians dropped the whole branch with all the leaves, creating a huge lake. When the evil spirit reached the shore of the lake, he gave up the pursuit. Since then, Lake Tahoe for the Indians has been a sacred place.
