The Palace of Quetzapapalotl

This is a continuation of the series on Teotihuacan, which I started a few days earlier. There are literally thousands of structures of Teotihuacan, but the three main ones are from south to north, based on the basic map of the site; they are; Pyramid or Temple of the Feathered Serpent, Pyramid of the Sun, and Pyramid of the Moon. Today I will talk about the Palace of Quetzapapalotl:

The Palace of Quetzalpapalotl is perhaps the finest palatial building at Teotihuacan. With its painted and decorated lintels and ornately carved pillars inlaid with obsidian and mica, there is little doubt that it was designed to portray an architectural masterpiece. It is located to the south western corner of the plaza of the Moon. The walls of the palace still show many well preserved Murals such as this one:

The name Quetzapapalotl is literally translated to be "the featured butterfly" but later research in Teotihuacan and elsewhere in Mexico suggest that the palace should be called the palace of the featured Owl, however the first name stuck. Without getting too much into Teotihucan history and iconography; I will just show you one more shot that perhaps do justice to the mystic of the place. This is how the palace looks into the plaza of the Moon, as if a portal into an another world:
