Kanchanaburi by train with Mystery girl [Day 1] - Kanchanaburi, Thailand

in #travel5 years ago

Kanchanaburi is a gorgeous area close to Bangkok. It is very famous for its railway and rich history about world war 2. This area had an important influence in the war. There are war museums, cemeteries and many more. As usual, I will be giving you an alternative. I rarely follow common tourists routes and try to offer something unique. If you are interested in that part of Kanchanaburi, then scroll down to the end of this post. I will link you to a post with the best tourist attractions of Kanchanaburi.

The train to Kanchanaburi leaves at 7.45am at the Thonburi station in Bangkok. We have to wake up pretty early as we aren't staying anywhere close to the station. We have to take a taxi to get to the train station.

We arrive early with 30 minutes to spare. We buy our tickets. The price for Thai people and foreigners is different. If you are Thai, the ticket will costs you only 25 baht, but foreigners have to pay 100 baht! That is a big price difference. But the price difference when entering National Parks are even bigger, where foreigners have to pay up to 300 baht. Meanwhile Thai people only pay 30 baht.

Train timetable

Below you can find the timetable from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi. It is possible that these times change in the future. Make sure to go to the following link to have the latest timetable.

The train

The train itself is actually really comfortable, we go all the way to the front of the train. I want to be in the front, so as I take a picture outside the window, the whole train is in it. And back home the front of the train is usually less crowded, apparently this counts for Asia too.

It takes 3 hours to get to Kanchanaburi. It's actually quite relaxing. It's hot outside, but all the windows are open. There are also a lot of fans in the train to keep you cool. The sunlight hits our face, it is just perfect. I'm just enjoying the moment, the feeling of freedom hits me. Just being able to go anywhere I want, I feel grateful for this moment and that I am able to share with Mystery girl.

River Kwai Resort

For our first night, we booked a room very close to the train station. Upon arrival at the train station, we got a motorbike taxi. This was very cheap and only costs us 60 baht total. There are also red taxi trucks, they wanted to charge us 100 baht. This is too much for less than 2 km! So I said no and we got on the motorbike instead.

We got a good price for a room. I think it was about 800 baht including breakfast. The room is big and clean and there is a pool! I forgot to snap pictures of the room.

The Bridge on the River Kwai

First stop is the famous Bridge. This bridge is very famous because of it's history and the second world war. It linked Thailand with Burma. It's part of the infamous 'Death Railway' and was build by the Japanese.

The railway was built by prisoners of war. It got the name the 'Death Railway' because many people died while building the railway. The railway was important to transfer goods and people through South-east Asia.

Phra Phoetisat Guan Im Shrine Temple

Behind the bridge is a gorgeous temple. Not many people come to visit this temple. While the bridge is packed with people, the temple stays relatively empty. Nevertheless, the temple is way more beautiful than the bridge. But the bridge is very famous and specially for the history.

The temple is a Chinese temple. You can tell by the drawings and statues. Chinese temples show a lot more warriors. Like they have statues of warriors or paintings of warriors with long beards.

Thai Tea at Lamoon

On the way back we stop for some Thai tea. We saw this coffeeshop and it looks absolutely great, and great it was. The tea was absolutely delicious. I would definitely come here again! They also had these funny props to take pictures with. And just like last time, Mystery girl stays a mystery.

Room service

We end the day in our resort. It's so hot in Kanchanaburi and we are tired from all the traveling. We can use some time to relax and to cool down in the pool. We stay in the pool for over 2 hours!

After our swimming session we make it to the room for a shower and we order room service. This is a first for me. I usually stay in hostels and never ordered room service in my life. I have this thought about room service that is overpriced. But this one is a really good price and it's so delicious! 10/10 would recommend again!

This concludes our first day in Kanchanaburi. I am very excited for the rest of our stay. There are very beautiful places in Kanchanaburi and I cannot wait to explore them. Tomorrow we are checking out of this hotel and we are going to a different area. But first a long and well-deserved sleep. We are exhausted.
