QTime Internet Cafe Taipei Review

QTime is an Internet Cafe chain in Taipei with very reasonable rates. They have a menu of their rates available in Chinese, English and Japanese. You just have to ask. Be sure to bring your passport of some sort of valid ID.

Included with your hourly internet fee, you get unlimited ice cream and drinks! So if you want to spend the minimum NT$60 ($2USD) as a non-member, that's all you can eat ice cream for 1-hour!

Taipei Internet Cafes are great if you're looking for things to do in Taipei early in the morning. Some flights to Taipei arrive early in the morning so you won't be able to check-in to your hotel yet, but you can go to an internet cafe!

How It Works: Using an Internet Cafe in Taipei

Just show up at QTime and let them know what type of room your looking for. In the pictures, I'm using a "box," which is a private cubicle you can sleep in for 1 person. They have a "Japan Box" that can fit 2 people.

If you're planning on staying for at least 5 hours, it would be worth it to grab a membership, otherwise you can go with the non-member rates.

After you let them know what your preference (non-member/member/room type), they will take your ID and someone will escort you to your cubicle.

They'll make sure it's clean and everything is in working order. If you need any help, they can provide it. Feel free to bust out Google Translate if you're having any issues.

The Box Experience at QTime

QTime's Internet Cafe "Box" rooms have a gaming computer, TV, DVD player and cable box. There's 1 light above you and can be turned off with a switch. The room has 1 electrical outlet and 1 USB outlet along the wall next to the light switch.

My height is 5'8" and I could sleep in the Taipei internet cafe box without any issues. While laying flat, my head and toes didn't touch the walls...but it was close. You'll definitely have some issues if you're any taller.

QTime Internet Cafe Amenities

There's is a restroom available and a shower (for an additional charge) at QTime. They provide free DVDs for you to watch and A LOT of comics. All the American movies have an English option on the DVDs. But for comics, it's all in Chinese.

By the front desk, they provide FREE ice cream (vanilla and chocolate), black tea (sweetened), orange juice, grape juice, lemon tea, grapefruit tea, Pepsi, green tea, milk tea (sweet), hot water and ice.

That's pretty awesome! You can come in for 1 hour (non-member fee NT$60) just to eat as much ice cream as you want.

Snacks are also available for purchase.

QTime Pricing

QTime Taipei Internet Cafe Rates

Non-Members Rates: NT$60/hour (box)
Shower: NT$75 per use (members and non-members).
QTime Membership Cost: NT$100

Rates with Membership:

Open Area: NT$39/hour
Box: NT$51/hour
Japan Box: NT$102/hour

They have cheaper "packaged rates" but you have to start your time between 10pm and 11am. This is great if you need to hang out somewhere for a late night flight or an early arrival.

Open Area

The open area is a long desk with multiple computer stations with no privacy walls. This is ideal if you just want to play computer games next to your friends.
Box

The box is the room I got as a non-member. It's ideal for playing games, watching TV/DVDs and taking naps. There are two non-cloth pillows in the room for easy cleaning. The rooms has a leather mattress pad you can lie down on comfortably.
Japan Box

The Japan box is a slightly bigger room with leather mattress pads all over the floor. You are required to take your shoes off before entering and it has the Japanese style paper door frames. The Japan Box can accommodate up to 2 people.
Payment:

After requesting your internet room, you don't pay until you leave. If you want to go out and come back in, that won't be an issue.

Previous Next

Overall, everything was very clean and organized. The staff spoke enough English to help me out and it was a very unique experience since this was my first time at an internet cafe in Taipei. I used to go to internet cafe's in Los Angeles (when Counter-Strike first came out) and it was nothing as nice as QTime internet cafe.

So if you're looking for things to do late at night in Taipei while waiting for a late night flight, going to an internet cafe in Taipei is a great option. The reverse is also true. When I fly to Taipei from Los Angeles, I take redeye flights which leaves LA at midnight and I end up in Taipei at 6am. It's too early to do anything in Taipei at that time, so an internet cafe if absolutely the best option!

Money In Taiwan

Tax Is Included In The Price

All displayed prices in Taiwan are the actual price. Tax is already included and for large purchases, tourists visiting Taiwan can get a 5% Taiwan VAT refund at the airport Tax Refund counter. Some shops offer this service too, but they will require your passport.

Taiwan Is Cash Only (For Most Small Shops)

The primary payment method for all transactions in Taiwan is cash. It's very rare for small shops to take anything other than cash. It's more common to see places accept the Taipei Metro Card as payment rather a credit card.

Supermarkets and convenience stores in Taiwan (7-Eleven, Family Mart) do not accept credit cards (at least not American credit cards). You can only make purchases by cash or by using your pre-loaded funds on your EasyCard.

Using Credit Cards in Taiwan

If you want to use your credit card in Taiwan, make sure to check if a restaurant in Taiwan accepts credit card in advance. When a place does accept credit card, it will typically be Visa or Mastercard. It's extremely rare for a place to accept Discover and American Express.
UberEats, HonestBee, Deliveroo and FoodPanda are Taipei Food Delivery Services where you can order food directly to your airbnb or hotel using a credit card.

Exchanging Money in Taiwan

You can exchange money at the airport or any bank in Taiwan. The rates vary from bank to bank and it can be a hassle to get a good rate. For additional information, check out my Exchanging Money In Taiwan Guide.
