Hillside adventure, Nusa Penida, Indonesia.

in #travel5 years ago

Morning steemers,
I'm still here on Nusa Penida island in Indonesia and I must say this place is pretty amazing. If you get the chance to visit don't hesitate!!

This beautiful and very common back at home Plumeria pudica in the hills was a nice sight while lost on some terrible "roads."

But before I went adventuring through the hills on my terribly conditioned $5 scooter I had to visit the local hospital, my arm was still in agony. I didn't have to wait long to see the doctor as they pushed the only round eye there ahead of the cue.... I must admit I felt bad but still jumped at the opportunity 😬
I chatted with the Doctor in slow broken English attempting to explain to him what had happened.
I assume he understood as he cleaned the wound and prescribed be some medication.

$18.50 later and I was on my way with some random Indonesian medicine.

The meds required food before consumption so I stopped and ate an amazing Bahn Mi at a local restaurant and headed for the hills.
I usually love the organised chaos of South East Asian roads but the people on this island drive like complete dickheads. If you come here BE CAREFUL!

At first the roads were great. Nice sweeping turns and barely anyone on them.

That didn't last long as the bitumen quickly disappeared.

Navigating this terrain on a scooter is far from ideal, I was sure it was going to fall apart from underneath me.

I powered on through the aggressive pot holes and loose bitumen getting airborne from time time and having no idea where I was headed. As painful as the ride was I was having a great time dodging the wild roosters and dogs that seemed to jump out around every corner.

The scenery quickly made up for any seconds of stress I felt along the way.

It was obvious that left was the wrong direction but it looked fun and curiosity got the better of me.

As I jumped up the last hill section I quickly realised it was a private driveway and began to turn around before anyway could yell at me.
Much to my surprise some local kids came running towards me with huge smiles yelling "hello, hello" and waving their arms, I shut the engine off and went to say hello.

These super friendly locals kids were so nice to me, the eldest spoke fairly good English and explained that I had to be very careful on these roads. I couldn't help but imagine how different things would be if the same situation happened in Australia, the intruder would be told "piss off or I'll call the cops." The girl pointed me in the direction of a view point so I said goodbye and followed her directions.

The roads got worse and worse but still rideable so I continued on for another half hour or so until I found a shop and stopped for water. They assured me I was headed in the right direction and the viewpoint wasn't far from where I was. They weren't lieing as I arrived within seconds.

The sign reads "Thank god it's Banah sunset point" as it is a real shit fight to get to

I'm assuming the sun sets here haha.

I will have to return to witness this before I leave, it would be a breathtaking sunset to see!

The views were truly incredible and the cliffs were so high my vertigo kicked in

I literally could have sat here all day but my coffee cravings took hold and I jumped back on the scooter after about 20 minutes of staring at the incredible views.

Unfortunately the only way down was the same way I got here....
I will spare the reader any further winging about roads but never will I winge about Queensland roads again (that's a blatant lie!)

I drank my coffee with this view and went back to my homestay to rest until the night market opens at 6pm. I have a craving for some delicious street food!

Until next time steemers, Peaceful Travels!
Sam.
