Trip Report: Highest Festival in the world Markahuasi Festival in Peru 2/2

in #travel6 years ago

CONTINUED FROM PART 1:

After I got to the festival grounds, the first thing I did was find the lady with the donkey carrying our stuff (We got separated on the way up the mountain). Then after we got our stuff, I set up my tent with a help of a French guy I met on the way up. The festival was a lot smaller than what I am usually used to but the location was just amazing! It's the craziest location for a festival.

Tents Are Just Scattered All Over the Place!

During the festival, I just did the usual festival stuff. Socialize, dance, drink, etc. The one thing about this location is that, during the day it is very nice, warm, and sunny. But during the night, its very very cold!! I think it got down to freezing temps. So, during the day, I went to explore the area with my friends and during the night, danced by the stage, hung out by the bonfire, and got some warm food from the vendors. Here are some pics from exploring the area.

Sadly, there are no pictures from the night because the festival ground was pretty dark at night and none of the pictures turned out well.
The next day, we went to go check out the lake that was nearby. We hiked to the lake, hung out around the lake, then came back near the festival grounds just in time to check out this beautiful sunset.

After partying until 4 or 5am in the morning and getting a little bit of nap in, it was time to pack up and leave. I wanted to get a donkey again to carry my stuff but due to a festival that the locals were having back in town, we could not get a donkey. After dragging my bag down the mountain for what seems like forever, I was able to find a car that was willing to drive me and my stuff back to the town for 20soles (about $7 USD and some change). A bit steep but I was just very tired from the whole trip so I took up on his offer.
