Nomadic Nuggets! Water on Fire... or Fire on Water?? (Original Photos)

Hi gang. I wanted to share this neat thing with you guys before calling it a night. Once or twice before I posted a few photos from Longwood Gardens, which is a big garden attraction in southern Pennsylvania. It was owned by one the DuPonta, an ultra wealthy family from yesteryear. Longwood was built in the early 1920's or so but has been expanded and maintained. It is now open to the public.
Anyway, this was from our second trip there which was last October. At that time of year, they do fountain and light shows once it gets dark out. Like hundreds of fountains. Some blast water 100+ feet in the air and actually make a loud "bang!" when they go off. Halfway through the 20 minute show, something cool happened. Some of fountains started shooting water up in a steady column of water... but then the tops of the columns erupted into flames!

I'm not sure how they did this. I don't know if propane gas was left to just bubble up through the water, or if there was some kind of actual pipe/tube that came up inside the water to bring gas to the top of the water column. IF it was a pipe, it must be retractable and goes into the ground, because I saw the fountains both before and after the show, and there was not tall pipe in sight. Very neat effect though!

The fountains were set to "dance" in sync with a ton of Beatles songs, which was nice. Must have been a fortune to put the whole thing together. Both to license the music and to arrange the water features. Somewhere I saw it mentioned that the same company that built the famous Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas did these ones too.
