Travel - Visiting the Iconic Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida
The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida is one of America’s grand old resort hotels. I was at a conference being held there this week and it was a beautiful place to stay. The Italian Renaissance style architecture is very ornate and has a very old world feel to it. It was built by Florida real estate, railroad, and oil tycoon Henry Flagler and opened its doors on 1896. He built it to cater to the winter travelers from the north on his Florida East Coast Railway.
The ceilings throughout the hotel are detailed wood and plaster work that looks like something you’d see in Rome.
Off the lobby is a garden and courtyard around which the rooms are situated.
But the grounds are definitely what you would expect at a high end beach resort with brick drives and pergola covered walkways.
There were numerous pools around which you could rent bungalows for your family to hang out during the day. I did not ask about the price of those, but can only imagine. My wife and I visited the lap pool shown below. It’s the only pool I’ve ever been to with a pool host who takes you to your pool chairs, sets them up with the umbrella for your desired amount of sun exposure, lays out your towels for you, and then immediately sends over your pool bartender to take your order. Not too shabby.

Beautiful! I thought at first that it was St. Augustine! It definitely has that Henry Flagler style to it and is very similar to some of his architecture in St. Augustine.
I just got my question answered about Flagler college. Thanks! :)
Flagler shows up a few places in Florida. He had enough money to spread it around.😁
He sure did! But he really went to town in St. Augustine! Lol!

Absolutely stunning locale, Dabeckster:)
It is not hard to see why this is popular with the rich and famous (neither descriptor applies to me, I’m just lucky).
OMG! I have stayed there three times in my life and I remember each vividly! Also a very handsome Hungarian Wine Steward named Emery! Ha!
Everything you show and say is truth and I think even moreso in person! Thank you for giving me an architectural refresher! Your shots are so awesome and Yes! Amazing!
Thanks. It was my second time there and it is amazing! I didn’t meet Emery, but did meet many others who make the place special.
I agree! Everything about that place is special. Do you know if the guy that built that is the one who they named Flagler College in St. Augustine after?
It is the same guy. Did you see the beautiful Tiffany glass windows at Flagler College when you visited?
Yes!! I wasn't used to colleges that were so "open" and passed on it, but, it really was a beautiful place.
New England's Universities were all caged in. ;)
