A photographer's dream come true!
Took this road from Bloemfontein to Kwazulu natal and were so surprised at the sheer beauty, of the landscape.
Beautiful colours in these rock formations, in the photo, below.
For those that like mountain climbing, this would be a fairly dangerous area to explore, because of the sheer drops, with little or no warning. Also, long grass hides these cliffs, as well.
Hikers should stick to the designated trails. Pick up a leaflet, at a tourist centre, in the area.
Wear good hiking boots, thermal waterproof jacket and emergency supplies in your backpack. A space blanket could also be lifesaving, if you lost your way and had to sleep in the freezing cold temperatures, somewhere up a mountain.
A satellite phone would also be good, extra protein energy bars and of course, water.
Below - Billowing clouds gather for a storm overhead. It is a summer rainfall area and you can experience severe electrical storms, with plenty of thunder and lightening!

A beautiful place indeed @dianadee we used to go there regularly living on the West Rand for Easter long weekends with our parents.
Traveled up a couple of years ago, using the route you must have taken, loved the drive between Durban and Clarens.
Much has changed, the area has developed a lot, the beauty remains! As children we used to hike those mountains during the daylight hours never giving any thought to dangers or backup gear.
So pleased you know the area well! Carefree and full of life, you must have been, as kids! Plenty of energetic hikes and meandering! One of our favourite, non stressful drives!
