The Far East

To the west of the city, beyond the ruins of Mt. Takasugi-san and the Kijijon Railway Station stands the city of Nara, the capital now known as Nara-shi. It was, until very recently, the sole town in the country, and it stands in the heart of one of the world's most populous and ecologically sensitive regions. Nara has always been a cosmopolitan city: a great mix of peoples come here when they want to live in peaceful coexistence, and they are free to make their own decisions concerning how this may or may not be. The culture and ideas embodied in Nara-shi's traditions – including Buddhism, Confucianism, and Sufism, have been the glue that holds all societies together for the last few thousand years.
