River Bathing Is The Best
Some might say that the very idea of bathing in a river is counter intuitive, but not for us. Stacie D (@freedomtowrite) and I have found this to be one of the highlights of living in the Ozark Mountians. They may be just giant hills, but the water that flows through them is an example of an untanted world.
Though there may be some that this is their only way to clean up, we do this because we enjoy it. There is freedom in the ability to swim out into crystal clear water and soap up.
Cultures around the world may see this post as a reference to their everyday life, but in America this isn't as common....at all.
We come from a place where we never really knew where our water came from, or how it was treated. When it left in the toilet you didn't know if it would return in your drinking water.
This is a subtle form of anarchy in modern society. To step out of the cookie cutter mold and do something that the masses would view as unbelievable. To go against a first world culture and a throw away society. To drive away from the subdivisions and out into the real world.
Perspective begins to shift as you are driving down the winding dirt road toward the streams. You watch your cell reception gradually go away one bar at a time. Your tires rub against loose rock and sand, and there is that thrill of not knowing if you might get stuck.
In you go, into the world where nemo lives. Schools of fish, and even turtles, swim by you. The sun shines through the water and you see crawdads shooting from rock to rock on the bottom.
The bright reflection warms your cold skin, while the cool spring fed waters wrap around you. The fish nibble at your leg hair.
The lather of the soap forms with a roar in the natural waters. Under you go in a white cloud of excitement. The soap explodes off of you and fades to nothing.
When it is all over, the feeling of compression sets in. The cold water has activated your lymphatic system, and you feel like your whole body has been iced down.
As night comes and we lay in bed with the window open. The cool evening breeze passes over our faces. We draw near to each other....clean....and content.
Stacie D and I use castille soaps. Vegetable based and environmentally friendly. We believe in being responsible with our actions and for the environment. Taking care of ourselves is part of taking care of the whole earth. Don't be afraid to explore your own ability to take care of yourself. Do something radical and step away from the norm. Be well.

Sounds wonderfully refreshing....but also super cold! As one who enjoys a shower so hot its almost burning my skin, what's it like to jump into cold ass water when its still cold out?
It is incredible! The sudden rush of adrenaline, the energy flows through your whole body! Your muscles tighten and compress, your joints pull tighter....it is amazing!
Im actually shivering as I read your comment, lol. I suffer from always being cold and count on that hot shower to warm my bones. I wonder if giving myself the opposite shock would also help? The spike of extra cold to get the blood circulating? Ill get up the courage to try it one of these days!
Yes! Try it in shallow enough water that you can stand up.
It is a privilege to be able to enjoy that relaxing paisanje and the bath in that river so refreshing. Excellent for health
It sure is. I love it. We have all the showers and things at home.....just not the same!
Bathrooms with cold water are very good for your health. In addition to that the only contact with nature revitalizes the whole body. Im glad for you. Greetings from Venezuela.
Nothing like cool, clear water flowing downstream...Camping by a pristine river in the mountains is one of my cherished memories.
It is so amazing. I hope my words can paint a picture for people that have never experienced it.
I started using Castile soap for washing dishes, and my hands don’t hate me anymore!
