Promenade Bench Plays Hide and Seek
When the Beach Jumped Onto the Promenade
After one particularly stormy night, Brighton and Hove woke up to this!
Most of the pebbles had been thrown from the beach onto the promenade almost burying the benches. They were more that 1 foot deep in places reaching up as far as the bench seats.
Whilst we are used to pebbles being thrown up overnight this was the most extreme I had ever seen it, in the more than 20 years I've lived here.
The only way to return them to their original place was to bring in bull dozers and lots of men with shovels! 😱

That's amazing, @gillianpearce. I guess the beach is far enough from buildings and such that pebbles didn't do damage to other things? Now, just where did the pebbles go? Back onto the beach or did they just haul them off? I wonder if there's something constructive they could use those pebbles for? :)
They go back onto the beach @glenalbrethsen. If they hauled them off there would be no beach after a few years. 😂
The promenade is pretty wide and then there are the lawns and then the road and then buildings so it's unlikely the pebbles will ever reach them. 😁
That made for an interesting photo. Amazing how the sea could put so many pebbles up there in one night. Some of them are quite large it appears.
