Cycling California, South Lake Tahoe

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hello all, so I drove down from Ashland Oregon yesterday to South Lake Tahoe for a few days. (And a little more cycling/mtb'ing). Below is a shot of Lake Tahoe from the Van Sickle trail

The ride was just over 10 miles and 1,700+ feet of climbing. The elevation of Lake Tahoe is 6200 ft and the Van Sickle trail that I was on was around the 7400+ ft level. (A little low oxygen)

GPS data is from a Garmin Vivoactive HR uploaded to Strava

On the way to the trail, I passed the casinos that is right over the boarder to Nevada. The only betting game that I like is poker, but none for me on this trip.

I though that the bike rental sign was interesting... can't miss it up there.

At the start, the trail is smooth single track, but it does not last too long.

Getting closer to the top, the climbs are 10%+ with rock obstacles in the way. Some of them way too large to get up, especially when your on a steep climb. I took this photo with the Galaxy S8 as level as I could get it to show the incline of the trail.

Some really nice views of Lake Tahoe, the terrain is much more rugged than Ashland Oregon.

Going on the downhill on Van Sickle takes a bit of skill as there are a lot of large, medium sized rocks to roll over and drop down off of. The trail is also on the side of the mountain, so going over the edge may be an issue depending upon where it is. Some places are worse than others and since there is a lot of rocks, landing on one of them would hurt a LOT...

There is a lot of cycling available in Lake Tahoe, both road and all type of mountain biking. Easy to full on enduro with big drops and hucks (If you have the skill)

Even if you do not bike, Tahoe is a great place to just relax and enjoy the scenery!

The pictures on the way of your journey are so beautiful. I love these scenes.

great landscapes. I wonder to bike in area like this. We have in Poland beautiful forests and lakes but in my area near Germany there aren't a lot of mountaints.

If you ever visit the USA, try to go to Lake Tahoe which is in the states of California and Nevada. You can rent a mtb or a road bike. I'd like to visit Poland someday, never been to Europe...

You are welcome. Kraków i think would be great option

Your cycling road images are very nice. It is very difficult to ride such a bike.

Thank you for sharing your journey.

The pictures are very beautiful but Seeing the pictures, it is understood that cycling is very difficult to run here.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

I think this is your toughest trip in recent times... The place looks rugged mostly...

Yeah, it was a tough climb on a 30 pound bike plus 70 ounces of water plus bike tools.

Photography capture a lot.
These pictures are really awesome.

Thanks! I try to take some interesting photos!

Very interesting walk on the bike! And immediately got a good mood ??

Umm, this is not walking except for the very steep parts of the trail that I could not get up.

Is it possible to ride any of this on a hard tail? The downhill parts?

Yes, but if you go too fast, I'd say a lot of people with go OTB on a HT.

Okay. Thanks for the reply

Brother can you try to delegate some steem power to my son bot (thebot). He provides 100 % payouts to the deligaters and also some extra reward from his own curation rewards. Kindly try and i hope you will be happy. Thanks.

When I ever get more SP, I may delegate some. I do delegate a little to Qurator, but that is for upvotes on my own posts. I'm just over minnow status, there are a lot of whales/dolphins that should be able to delegate and receive the payouts.

Thanks brother, i pray for your success.

Great post thanks for sharing....
