Evening Updates on the Kilauea Volcano Eruption - Big Island of Hawaii -Lava Cuts Off Access Routes

• Lava has recently off access to Kapoho, Vacationland, Highway 132, Highway 137 thus blocking the access and exit routes.

• As of now 87 residences have been destroyed.

• Fissure 8 is erupting like crazy with no stop in sight with fountains reaching 180 - 220 feet in height . The lava is pouring into a channel and traveling rapidly. The flow just hit Green Lake and created a huge steam plume. The only other flow is from Fissure 16 but it is fairly weak.

• Magma continues to be supplied to the lower East Rift Zone. The volcanic gas emissions remain very high from the
  fissure eruptions. The trade winds are blowing the VOG all the way over to the west side of the island where the skies above Kona are very cloudy.

• Pele's hair and other lightweight volcanic glass continues to form and are being carried by the winds. The public is being warned to be careful as to not to breath in the Pele's hair and other glass particles.

• Earthquake activity still continues but is thankfully very low.

• The County is still going door to door trying to get people to evacuate. There are a handful of people that are refusing to leave.
