  • The eruptions continue at a high rate especially from Fissure 8. The lava has finally made its way to Kapoho Bay. The problem is the laze is being created as the lava enters the ocean. The front of the flow is about a half mile wide and it is creating a delta in Kapoho Bay.

  • Pele's Hair, fragments of volcanic gas and ash, continue to be through all over the area on the east side of the Big Island.

map from USGS

  • Lava has broken out upslope of the Kapoho cone cinder pit, with active flows about 330 yards southeast of the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Cinder Road.

  • As of now at least 117 homes have been destroyed. Officials think the number may be higher due to the high concentration of residences in the Kapoho Bay area.

  • There have been over 500 earthquakes on the summit which is the highest amount ever recorded.

  • There was a 5.5 magnitude earthquake which was felt across the Big Island. No Tsunami was generated.
