Evening Updates on the Kilauea Volcano Eruption - Big Island of Hawaii - The Destruction Continues!
- Fissure 8 continues its vigorous eruption which is made up of three closely-spaced lava fountains. The fountains have reached heights of 130-180 feet. The lava has created a large river of molten rock which goes all the way to the ocean at Kapoho.
Sensors have measured double the gas emissions from the fissure system which, possibly indicating an increase in eruption rate from Fissure 8.
The area of the lava entry in Kapoho is very dangerous with the volcanic glass, and laze.
The Tradewinds are taking the Vog to the west side of the Big Island clouding the skies above Kona.
A small explosion occurred at Kilauea's summit at 12:51 a.m., about 20 hours since the previous event. This has marked a drop on seismic activity on the summit.
Halemaumau crater has changed dramatically as the lava moved out from the summit.
Mayor Harry Kim gave an emotional testimony to the Hawaii City Council almost scolding them for asking for answers when the situation is changing so rapidly.
