Morning Updates on the Kilauea Volcano Eruption - Big Island of Hawaii - Lava Fountains reach 220 Feet!

• Fissure 8 continues to be the center of activity as fountains reachheights of about 200-220 feet. The lava continues to flow into Kapoho Bay and has thus changed that area for hundreds of years. None of the other fissures are active for lava emissions, however heavy gas and steam emissions are coming from fissures 9 and 10.

• Pele's hair and other lightweight volcanic glass from high fountaining of Fissure 8 continue to cover the area around Leilani estates.

• There were a lot of earthquakes on the summit yesterday with a 5.5 quake early in the morning.

• There have been over 600 homes destroyed by the lava. 14.5 acres in Pahoa are being used to build transitional housing for the people that have been displaced. All of the work is being done with people donating time and materials.

• Civil Defense has allowed people in Leilani Estates, who have homes not affect by the lava, to go back to their homes.
