Monmartre : a place to not miss when in Paris

in #travel6 years ago

It has been said that any visit in Paris is not complete without setting foot in Monmartre.

Located on a hill in the 18th arrondissement, it can be accessed easily by 2 Metros, though the less able will be limited in going up. Using which Metro to use if this is the case needs to be researched on properly as there is a lift in one of the Metro station Caulaincourt. Another Metro station stop is that of Abbesses. A funiculaire is also available in one side of the Sacre Coeur though I can't recall if the Metro station is in Anvers. A mini-train is also available but I have no clue on which part of the hill it is based. Please check these out before you go. If one gets lost, walk up till you see Sacre-Ceour and you will be fine. Either from the front, back and sides of the Basilica is fine. I got lost once and I just walked uphill. It's different of course as I've said for the less able and those with their kids. So just be warned.

On a few occasions while attending a nursing conference in Paris few years back, I've sneaked out to Monmartre for a few hours, not only once when I got so bored. With a limited days of stay at that time, there was just one day allotted for sightseeing. Although our conference usually ended early in the day, we have had a few days walking along the River Seine as it was a walking distance from the conference hall. In the evening were spent walking about around Le Marais, looking for a place to have dinner.

Come away with me to Monmartre, PARIS

Chatting to a friend of mine the other night about Paris made me recall the holiday I had with another friend last October. This friend had everything booked for two but due to an unavoidable circumstances, if I wasn't free, she would have been all alone. The same friend joined me the last time when I had my conference in Paris. And as she have friends there too, it wasn't difficult for her to meet them, go shopping or do sightseeing alone, then meet me after the conference.

This time, with a lot of time in our hands, we made sure that it wasn't missed, regardless of how many times we have been going there.

Personally, Monmartre is PARIS. NOT the Eiffel Tower. Some people don't get the fuss like most do montmartre/, but this is to each other's differences.

Get lost in Paris and visit Monmartre

Immortalised by the number of renowned local and international artists of all time, Monmartre here was their playground. Although the place played a great role during the French revolution, its' attraction lies from the time when the impoverished and brilliant artists like Monet, Degas, Renoir and many others hungout with each other there.

Paintings of the place, images from research books and stories of the people of long ago have tried to show us how it was then in Monmarte. Coupled that to how it is nowadays, its' cobbled-stone and winding side-streets, narrow alleys, the old picturesque low buidlings made into restaurants, shops, apartments, the lively artists' square where restaurants can also be found at the centre...

One day out in Paris could be having BREAKFAST in La Rue Mouffetard then LATE LUNCH in Monmartre? A short visit in Monmarte gives you that feeling of seeing a bit of its' history. Of having been there and a feel like a bit of a BOHEMIAN.

Fancy that?

Monmartre is my favrouite place in Paris @immarojas. I've been a number of times and enjoyed it every time. Your photographs bring back lovely memories. 😊

I tried not to flood my post with loads of photos☺

Well you did a good job @immarojas. Nice balance. But then, who could complain about pictures of Montmarte anyway? 😁

It was havin a brit weather so most pics were gloomy. We just ate mussels then left🤣😂

You wouldn't been saying that if you'd been here the last few weeks @immarojas. We've pretty much had wall to wall sunshine and warmth. 😁

Ahahaha am sure we have sunny spells there Gillian..but you know of our famous weather🤣🤣

Last time I was there, drinking coffee, a guy started to play the violin on the street a few meters from our table. And, soon enough a girl join him with a flute, and then another guy joined...
Pretty soon five of them were having a jam session. Now, I don't know if it was an act or they really found each other spontaneously, but it was a really nice bonus to a perfect Monmartre coffee.

Hmmm i can imagine..can just be an impromptu act but who cares, i wouldn't have minded that.
My friend and i were hardup in finishing our mussels staring at the square☺
