Of course in Phuket we stayed not only in the hotel, but also undertook some expeditions in the closer surroundings.

In the following I lead you through a rich quarter with magnificent villas, tropical nature, to the Rawai Beach and the Nai Harn Lake. Finally you can accompany us on a night walk.

I noticed the comfortable, relatively wide sidewalks (which are often missing elsewhere in Asia) in this residential complex, which was by the way supervised by gatekeepers.

In the tropics the flora thrives, everywhere you leave it, extremely opulently.

Not only the leaves reach a considerable size here ...

As an insect lover I got my money's worth in view of the variety of arthropods.
The two following pictures each present quite stately Diplopoda of the order Spirobolida..

Also these members of the family Polydesmidae belong to the Diplopoda. Auch diese Bandfüßer (Familie Polydesmidae) gehören zu den Diplopoda.

I also spend some time as paleontologist and found this fossilization which is at least several millions of years old. :-)

Amazing - and honestly not completely harmless - I found the electrical wires hanging down everywhere at the sides of the roads, being also fastened everywhere, for example at trees. Since the locals are mostly anyway on the road with their (hopefully in the near future, as already now in China, electrified and thus quieter and more environmentally friendly) motor scooters due to missing sidewalks, this perhaps also worries first and foremost inveterate pedestrians like me ... B. an Bäumen, befestigten Stromleitungen.

Another huge problem is the garbage lying around everywhere - we humans are really the biggest plague ever created by evolution on the planet! And not to give the impression to point only with the finger at others: also here in Germany the litter problem grows, which I already addressed here and here.

On the positive side, the environmentally friendly way of heating water by using solar thermal energy is being used more and more frequently in Thailand.

If you can escape something in Southeast Asia with certainty not, it is noisy, large quantities of exhaust emitting scooters ...

The Nai Harn Lake is very close to the beautiful Nai Harn Beach, of which I will report another time.

The night walk, of which the following pictures testify, may not seem spectacular, but for me it was one of the most pleasant moments of our stay. Although the sun was no longer shining, it was still pleasantly warm and the air full of exotic flagrances (also the motor bikes were already sleeping). I absorbed the atmosphere and enjoyed the evening.

Can you recognize the cat which is following me? Könnt ihr die mir folgende Katze erkennen?

For the rest of our way we were under the protection of this kindly minded Buddha and the moon.

the wild life that you exploredare obviously massive!
they give me goosebumps even though they're just on the screen
am not a fan of long bodied creatures specially with so much legs :D
the giant millipede if that's it - would be okay to hold though

I love Phuket though we've seen too much warning about the tsunami
the beach there is just so beautiful
the massages are cheap!!!
and the food!!! the sea pic is like a walk down memory lane :D

... am not a fan of long bodied creatures specially with so much legs :D

It's a matter of taste, the species which I fear most is called Homo sapiens. :-)

It’s good to accompany all of you to see these interesting things; Buddhist altar, Thai houses, a lot of green trees, flowers, beach, lake, especially the amazing insects, etc. Ah! I think, I know you well, you are a true insect lover; you have great knowledge about insects and provided us interesting information together with photos of the insects. I always admire you on this. Um! The fossilization you found maybe at least several millions of years old, as you said! ;D

I agree with you, the problems of “electrical wires” and “garbage” are big problems for us nowadays. In the meantime, I like the idea of using solar thermal energy for heating water. Yeah! It’s the environmentally friendly way indeed.

My father usually drove us to Phuket and visited Rawai Beach several times in the past. I love this beach and all other beaches in Phuket. All of your photos are beautiful, especially the ocean view in the evening and at night… Oh! A lot of boats there! It’s also great that you can take photo of the egret while walking at the beach. The Nai Harn Lake is beautiful and looks very nice atmosphere. I have visited Nai Harn Beach, but I didn't know before that there is Nai Harn Lake nearby..

The big Buddha is magnificent with the nice moon in the sky. Um… I can see, you all were protected by them for the rest of your way….

It’s very nice walk and good exercise for you and your wife, @kobold-djawa, and it’s also good for your little princess to breath fresh air along the way and at the beach as well. ;)

Of course concerning the fossilization I was just kidding. This poor gecko probably died while people were building the pavement. It fell into it when the material was not yet dried ...

And another little thing: of course these millipedes aren't insects, but they also belong to the phylum of Arthropoda.

Yes, I knew that you were kidding about the fossilization at the beginning. I like your humor. And I like the way you observe the things, really good observation…. And you have good reasons to support… That’s why I always admire you.

Regarding to the millipedes, I’m so sorry for my mistakes. Thanks for providing more information about them. ;D

Regarding to the millipedes, I’m so sorry for my mistakes.

No problem at all ... :)

^_____^

It's fun to see you get excited about all these small little things locals over look as we're so used to it. My bf did the same thing, he took photos of power lines lol and prolly a small Buddhist altar as well if he'd seen one.

I have never been to the Rawai Beach and the Nai Harn Lake but I normally love when the water is dang clear... this one doesn't look like it??

Rawai Beach is not meant for bathing there, but good to go to eat ...
I think the water at Nai Harn Beach is more or less clear, it was nice to swim there.

And please, don't tell me these kinds of hanging down power lines couldn't be dangerous ... It's just that the locals aren't walking there anyway most of the time ... :)

Hahhaa I don't know about the dangerous part. I'm so used to it and it looks like that in every part of Thailand :D Now that you say this, I prolly have to pray every time I walk under it so that it won't fall. You get me scared :D

as much i liked the whole architecture when i saw the bugs, oh my god :P if i ever go there i will book a hotel with no bugs nearby :P
