Clickbaits and not so newsy news

in #travel6 years ago

Earlier in the week I was so annoyed by a little movie that dropped by. The movie from msn.com (click for link)

Yes, this video was taken in Sint Marin, my former home.

Sint Martins runway is famous or maybe better said notorious for how close you can get to the planes just before they land and take off. If you ask me planes landing just above you is weird to be exited about, but thats maybe because I dont like flying hahaha. But everyday busloads of people coming from cruise ships come to see and do just this.

You can find 10.000 of selfies from people doing this and landing planes is not really a danger.

And that is where the annoyance of this video comes in.

Because everything is a matter of perspective and camera angles ofcourse. In this video they say something like that 'the plane missed her foot by inches or something like that.

What a crock!!!

Look closely to this image I took months ago there

Does this look like anybody will be hit standing on the beach there? And if you image a person twice as high becaue they have somebody on their shoulders doing a handstand?

No of course not!! Because its not possible! If this was a matter of inches people would surely not be allowed to stand here. Did I mention already there is also a road there where trucks also pass? That would be impossible as well right?

And yes

People are f&cking stupid when it comes to airplanes. Last year we had a dude that threw a ball at an incoming plane which really makes me wonder what is going around in people brains. But doing a handstand while a plane is 30 meters or more above you is another story.

Jetblast

Jetblasting is totally different story. Although there are signs that warn you that you should not stand behind a plane taking off (Im sorry, but even a person WITHOUT a fear of planes can honestly say that this is a super stupid idea right) again busloads of people still do this. And if one person can do it, everybody can, so it seems.

Tragically this lead to a lady losing her life while being thrown into concrete when the jetblast was all of a sudden there. Im not saying anything about that, because it is sad and nobody wanted something like that to happen EVER.

But back to where it all began: clickbait

What the people in the initial first handstand image are doing is not dangerous, and the news is projecting them as the most irresponsible human beings on earth. It doenst really seem fair, I find.

I am still hoping only 'real' news will be put out, but this seems to be like a mission impossible unfortunately

what the fuck is this...haha

Okay, it's not inches or anything! But holy crap, that is pretty low! It would be pretty ear-shattering on the ground?!

I saw the article and wondered about that. I would not think that the planes get that close to the ground or the government would close that area of the beach. Yeah, seems like media was trying to find something to report. Maybe to hide something pretty major? 🤔🤔

Yea, I know what you mean.

However it is funny to play with clickbaits ;) Or at least see other people play with it. For example I know a guy at YT doing LetsPlays and in one video he added the word "tits" and a thumbnail with some (possible) boobs on it. This video got twice as many clicks as usual. Well he does not do this all the time, it was just for the fun of it.

Actually I don't click on any post/video anymore, where are:

  • red circles
  • red arrows
  • the thumb obviously does not have anything to do with the content
  • ALL TEXT UPPERCASE (sorry)
    and so on...

saves a lot of time...

PS: Until now saw and read so friggin much about this airport, that I'm not sure if I want to see it myself anymore
