Touring the city of Constanta with Zummer Fun bus

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

One of my favourite Romanian destinations is the city of Constanta. During my last visit this summer I was surprised to see that there was a new attraction in the city: the Zummer Fun Bus.

DSC_0726.JPG

The double deck bus offered a city two hours and a half long tour for only 5 lei, which is less than 2 euros. Not expensive at all when you think of the distance and that it was a round-trip ticket! If you want to hop in and off the bus then you may want to opt for a cheaper ticket which is the 2 lei (less than 1 euro).

The cost of a ticket included a map offered to all passengers and the password for the free WiFi aboard.

The distance covered from one end to another was 35 kilometres and had 56 bus stops. The Zummer Fun Bus had a departure each 25 minutes.

Although the City tour advertised that they covered 100 touristic attractions, we were not able to identify all of them. Or maybe because we knew the city, we would not have considered certain of them attractions. That is a possibility as well!

DSC_0746.JPG

The tour started in front of the Constanta's Railway station and headed towards the city's New Lighthouse, then it turned towards the port.

DSC_0527.jpg

Entering the port was the most exciting part of the bus trip because usually only those who work in the port are permitted to enter.

DSC_0535.JPG

Access in not allowed unless you have a business in there or work for one the government institutions or the private companies doing business on the premises.

Crossing the huge area of Constanta's Naval shipyard and the Maritime Ferry Terminal was a thrill for all of the visitors onboard!

Needless to add that seeing so many ships and cranes was a delight for all the little passengers, my son included.

The Old Maritime Stock Exchange building was another impressive objective on our itinerary!

DSC_0567.JPG

DSC_0588.JPG

On our way out of the Naval Shipyard, we found the Romanian Naval Authority building and the newly renovated seafront restaurant, The View.

DSC_0637.jpg

DSC_0634.JPG

Then we entered the Old City of Constanta, known under the name of Old Port or Peninsula.

DSC_0594.JPG

That's were the former Casino lies on the city's boardwalk!

DSC_0625.JPG

It is a shame that the local authorities left such a grandiose building fall apart. Even in ruins, the Casino looked majestic!

DSC_0626.JPG

DSC_0647.JPG

The three towers of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral came to sight as soon as we entered the Peninsula. Next to the Cathedral, we were able to see the ancient ruins of the Tomis City.

DSC_0629.JPG

The Genoese Lighthouse and the Admiralty Headquarters dating from 1882 came next.

DSC_0648.JPG

DSC_0650.JPG

DSC_0651.JPG

Right before descending towards the Marina, we saw the ice cream trucks, a delight for all those who take a stroll on the boardwalk.

DSC_0653.JPG

The City's Marina looked beautiful. Its new facelift brought in a lot of tourists and visitors. More and more yachts anchor in there during the summer months.

DSC_0659.JPG

DSC_0660.JPG

On the way back to the city, we passed near two museums: the Roman Mosaic and the National History and Archeology Museum. Both of these museums had their entrance in the Ovid Square, thus we only saw a glimpse of their beauty.

DSC_0671.JPG

As we passed next to the City Hall, we got closer to the city's centre. We also saw the ruins of the Thermal Roman Baths dating from the 3rd century and the City's Defence Tower IV-VII AD 96. Unfortunately I don't have photos of those.

DSC_0673.JPG

DSC_0674.JPG

DSC_0676.JPG

As we were leaving the Old City behind, we headed on Mircea boulevard from where we were able to see some of the city's beaches: Modern and Trei Papuci, the Folk Art Museum and The Metamorphosis Greek Church. No photos of the latter ones as well.

DSC_0678.JPG

While passing through the city, we noted that the traffic was not as bad as we thought. Although it was a rush hour, the circulation was fluid. Being used to be stuck in traffic for half an hour or more back home, we didn't get why the locals were complaining about it.

DSC_0690.JPG

Once we passed the Mac Donalds and the Delphinarium, we had the Siutghiol Lake on our left until we entered the Mamaia Resort, which is connected to the city.

DSC_0695.JPG

DSC_0738.JPG

DSC_0732.JPG

The resort is a strip of land from 300 to 500 meters in width that stretches for 8 kilometres in length, separating the Black Sea from the Siutghiol Lake.

DSC_0705.JPG

We were pleasantly impressed by the bridges crossing the boulevard enabling pedestrians to reach both sides of the resort safely.

DSC_0718.JPG

DSC_0720.JPG

DSC_0710.JPG

The Ferris wheel of the city's entertainment park was visible from the road.

DSC_0737.JPG

On the sea side we discovered the Telegondola(Cable Cars) Station and the AquaMagic water park.

DSC_0735.JPG

The ride back from Mamaia to Constanta's Railway station took us on a different path, with less touristic objectives.

DSC_0723.JPG

The American Circus was in town but since it was with animals, we did not attend any of its shows.

DSC_0733.JPG

I liked this dandelion water fountain, although it looked spiky without the water.

DSC_0504.JPG

The views on the Tabacariei Lake were stunning! In the far distance you can see the Expo Centre building located at the entrance of Mamaia resort.

DSC_0503.JPG

The Orthodox Church of Holy Martyr Mina that sits on the shores of the Tabacariei Lake is an work of art. It has been built in the early '90s and its architecture is not representative for Dobredja County, but for Maramures, a Northern area of Romania.

In close vicinity to the church there were City Park Mall and Gravity Park.

DSC_0502.JPG

DSC_0490.JPG

Gravity Park is an area designed for skateboard and scooter lovers, a place for them to improve their skills.

DSC_0472.JPG

A short portion of the rod took us on the Tomis boulevard from Capitol to Ferdinand boulevard where we continued straight until we arrived to the railway station.

DSC_0739.JPG

Keep in mind the bus schedule varies during the summer months. Thus:

  • 16th and 30th of June, the bus schedule is from 9am(first bus) to 6pm (last bus).
  • July 1st to August 31st, it goes from 9am to 10pm.
  • 1st to 15th of September, gets back to from 9am to 6pm.

At the end of our tour, we entered the Railway station building to check it out.

DSC_0749.JPG

DSC_0748.JPG

DSC_0751.JPG

While we were there, we were lucky to see two trains arriving. They looked so different, as if they were riding in totally different eras!

wow, what a trip you had! I bet your son loved the shipyard! The casino architecture was amazing, too bad it hasn't been maintained. A real shame. I appreciated this Zummer Fun Ride! So much to see, I'll need to read your post a couple of times! :)

Glad to hear you enjoyed the ride!

Wow! What a cool tour!
You took a LOT of really nice photos too! Good job! :D

My son loves buses, so I kind of had no choice but to take the tour. ;-)

Haha! I know how that is. ;)

Thanks for the tour of the city, such an interesting place and you saved us two Euros :), which is really cheap I am not sure tow Euros will even get you a coffee anywhere in NYC

Funny thing is that a coffee is double the price of a bus ride in some places in the city.

WOW that is crazy

I really like the old city. Especially the old casino. That is some stunning architecture. One of my friends is actually playing basketball in Romania for the second year in a row. And, he loves it there. :)

I will have to visit one day. Thank you for the tour.

Have an amazing day. :)

You definitely should pay visit a visit. Go during the summer months and you will have a blast for sure! Have a wonderful day!

Amazing Ztrip to Constanta👍@lymepoet.. it reminded me something of my visit to Bucharest. ...Romania is a beautiful country....when we went on an official work we were stunned by some beautiful charming girls 😇 all around. Night life , pubs and beautiful place....a perfect place to live...though the locals were harsh if you are an outsider..unless and until you do not have someone familiar

Posted using Partiko Android

Night life is something in there! I guess that applies to all countries, when locals get protective of their own girls. ;-) Romanians are friendly and helping people. Most of them are fluent in English or French.

Hahah...it was some fantastic times out there...especially on weekend...though it was short trip but a good one..with loads of memory....especialy the common name 'mihai' which happens to be a father i guess

Posted using Partiko Android

lol here I thought romania was only brasrov and transylvania :D

Transylvania and Brasov are only two of popular destinations in there. ;-)
