I have been a huge Grateful Dead fan for the last decade ever since I had moment with Jerry and the band while listening on some uncut California Sunshine LSD back in Austin, TX and it has been a beautiful musical and cultural journey ever since. So needless to say, it was pretty amazing today to get stop by their old stomping grounds at 710 Ashbury St. where the band lived close to the start of it all. And after having a not so nice time the night before with a very trashy and homeless run side of town, it was a breath of fresh air to see all of the Dead Family around this area. Though similar, the homeless Dead Family don't give off that same scary vibe as we felt on the other side of town. Most of them are just looking to bum a smoke or score a deal of some kind. But I was disappointed that there wasn't anything that stood out about the house and no crowd around it, so it was pretty much just a house, but it was cool to imagine how it once was.

It was cool to see the area still true to that time period, as tie-dye was everywhere and the Family vibe was vibrant all down the street. We stopped in one of the shops that was full of amazing handmade products, including this hand dyed ceiling!

We also stopped at VeganBurg, a "fast food restaurant" offering vegan burgers and plant-based New American standards, which was the initial purpose of our trip to the area.

The menu looked great and we decided on their Trufflebello Burg which is a festive concoction of superfoods: kale, purple cabbage, sun-dried tomatoes, and crispy portobello patty - sandwiched in a merry spicy truffle aioli delight for $10.90 and their HAWAIIAN TERIYAKI which is an-grilled luscious pineapple slice, GMO-free pan-grilled plant-protein patty, Japanese teriyaki sauce, red onion, tomato, fresh lettuce, creamy vegan aioli, and and fiber-fueled organic bun for $10.90 as well.

We also got a side of their creamy garlic fries and regular seaweed fries. I did not like the Trufflebello too much because the mushroom was just too much for me (should not have ordered in hindsight lol) but the HAWAIIAN TERIYAKI was AMAZING! The garlic fries we also a but too much but the regular ones were fanstaic! I want to go back and try more of their burgers for sure!

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with hippie culture and the 60s. I of course had little to work with, being from a backwater town in southern Africa, but I had The Doors, Jefferson Airplane and the likes to listen to and I started fantasising about one day trying LSD. It was something that no one could quite explain and there is usually an explanation for everything.

Luckily my wish came true in ways I could never have imagined. And the effects really were something I never could've dreamt of.

San Francisco was always on my bucket list of course, but besides it being prohibitively expensive to travel from the southern tip of Africa to the West Coast of the US, it seems like you can forget about an affordable place to stay anywhere near the city. Or feed yourself because $11 may be acceptable in the US, but I could eat for three days off that and well too.

So enough with my obvious envy, happy for you to experience something so rare and I really hope you have some savings left!

Peace

Love love love Haight and Ashbury! Glad you enjoyed your trip.

Good to see both of you exploring places. O man what did you show me now I feel like I am hungry.
This burger looks so yummy. $11 looks like a high price but if it looks like this and that yummy then I am willing to pay for it :)

this is so nice, i can imagine the taste :)
