Gardens by the Bay
Gardens by the Bay is a massive and colourful park located in the waterfront of Singapore. We were there late afternoon and I am sharing with you snapshots taken then with my mobile phone. Not for want of trying, those night shots I took did not do justice to the awesome illumination of this celebrated wonder of sustainable architecture and horticulture.
The famous Supertree structures provide an impressive skywalk over the gardens and the monstrosities of seashell-shaped conservatories provide temperatures conducive to the hundreds of trees and plants housed inside.
There was a big crowd and certain areas were temporarily cordoned off as apparently some dignitaries were also visiting. After much standing and walking around, the heat got to us although the temperature inside the conservatories/greenhouses was much lower than on the outside.
We headed to cool down at the Cloud Forest which is a 35 metre high 'slope' covered with tropical plants and orchids. Water cascades down this slope like a waterfall and creates a tremendous sheet of mist.
The walk from start to end was like a lifting journey through various climes around the world. Plants and trees of many countries are grown/displayed under these domes. Even if you have not yet been to Chile or Argentina, you can get a firsthand view here of the monkey puzzle tree that is indigenous to these countries.
I am sharing here some closeup snapshots of the flowers exhibited here and also the awesome views looking out from the conservatories. I do hope you like them.
