Carnival Cruise - Caribbean June 2018 - Grand Cayman

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

OK, so this ended up being our favorite stop on the trip and also ranks as one of our most enjoyable cruise stops ever especially considering the cost. On our last cruise I had done some research and had come up with several places to go in Grand Cayman for snorkeling. Unfortunately we never made it to any of them. This cruise, because the internet service was so bad, I was unable to do any re-research prior to getting to Grand Cayman and wasn't quite sure of the names of the places that we wanted to go to the last time. Anyways, we got off of the ship and I was able to quickly obtain a map from a tourist information building and sure enough recognized the names of the places that we wanted to go to the last cruise, one of which was Smith Cove.

So we got a taxi and for 14 dollars US he dropped us off at Smith Cove or per the local signage Smith Barcadere.

I will have to warn you that some of the locals are a bit territorial. This particular fellow decided to pee on me and after I jumped out of the way poop on the blanket. The first picture is from his camouflaged point of attack.

After getting over the initial shock of it all we did decide that it was rather funny. Fortunately the blanket and I washed off just fine in the ocean.

About mid-day butterflies started flying through and while this video does not do it justice it just added to the completeness of a most relaxing and enjoyable day in Grand Cayman.

In conclusion all I can say is this is a must do if you are in Grand Cayman. The beach was clean, not too crowded, and most of the people that we saw there were either locals, staying at B&B's, or at the local hotels. As far as we could tell we were the only ones from any of the cruise lines. The water and scenery were beautiful, the snorkeling very good, and the overall environment wonderful.

This makes me wish I still lived within reach of tropical places. If I ever get out that way again, I am SO going on a cruise, ANY cruise. I remember how nice it could be living in Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano, or Deerfield/West Palm Beach. We were within driving distance of the cruise lines or even the Keys.

We certainly do enjoy them, hopefully it's not too long before you can go on one.

sir i wish u are a great photographer

Thanks.
