Blists Hill Victorian Town, Shropshire England

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

In Telford Shropshire, there sits a small town, or more aptly put, an outdoor Victorian museum called Blists Hill. If you were not specifically looking for this place, you'd never know that it exists.

As you can see, the who town dresses up as if they were living in Victorian times. Of course they are all in character and act as if all is normal - but don't notice that us outsiders are dressed in modern clothing.

The two girls gave rides around town on their carriage. That was a lot of fun since we happened to have some friends and their kids along with us.

They even have an schoolhouse set up as it would be in the 1800s. I think that in a lot of ways it would have been nice to have lived in much simpler times. Of course there were a lot more incurable diseases back then! But I try to look at the more positive side of things.

It's fascinating when you think about how much times have changed over such a relatively short period. A lot of the equipment and structures that must have been a common sight back in those days are either no longer needed or streamlined to such a degree that they meld into the background of society.

The most fun part of the visit was being entertained by all of the actors doing their thing around town. There were several groups of people and individuals performing plays and monologues for visitors to enjoy.

I got a really good laugh out of the above two guys. The man lower down is portraying Romeo, while the man on the stairs with the blonde wig is Juliet. They were an absolute riot.

In the above picture you can see the coal mine and Shropshire Canal.

There's not a lot of excitement happening at the Blists Hill Victorian Town, but it is a nice casual relaxing day out where you can learn a bit about history and enjoy nature.

There is even a blacksmith on duty. I can't remember if he was actually making things, or simply putting on a show.

Of course there are plenty of old buildings to have a look at around town. If you are ever in Shropshire and are interested in checking it out, by all means do so. Just a warning, though. If you get car sick, you should know that the roads to this place are very windy!

If that doesn't bother you, than you'll be just fine.

Thats pretty filmatic dressing. I have seen this kind of dressings in films.
What A great carriage. We are still have such kinds of ridings. Thats really cool to take ride of such carriage.

It is an interesting place I wanted to visit, I just like their idea of re-living the Victorian way of life Sir @nuthman with their acting, it is just very unique in a way to educate the public too.
But living in those times really is hard because there isn't much cure for certain illnesses plus I do know if they use soap at all LOL.

How often do you visit the UK? we are having a SteemCamp in April (6th) in Leicster hosted by @lloyddavis.

In the unlikely event you are in the country then, it would be good to meet you. There will be a few of us going. I went to the first one last year.

Oh, that would be awesome! We usually come once a year, anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month (except when my mother in law passed away, we stayed twice for 6 months each). I don't think we'll be in the UK until Summer this year though, sadly. That sounds like fun, though.

It would have been nice to witness a village in medieval times in this modern living. And you photograph it very well and accurately. I really want to go there ... enjoy life without pollution from motor vehicle fumes.

This is absolutely breathtaking if you ask me, looking at all the amazing pictures, I must say this place is really portraying old Victorian time very very well with all the elements, this time you captured all the whole pictures, wow so amazing, I'm so impressed, so how long did you stay?

steep train track!

Oh yes @nuthman, your visit to the city looks amazing and now don’t see such cities in museums so often!

Excellent overview @nuthman, this city is a very amazing place and to visit it is similar to plunge into historical times!
