Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

in #travel5 years ago

Today's adventure had us at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, just north of Albuquerque's downtown. We were there to witness the beautiful traditional dances by the Acoma Sky City Pueblo, a Native American tribe that exists 60 miles west of Albuquerque.

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is a multi-purpose center owned and operated by the 19 official pueblos of New Mexico. The center exists for the preservation and celebration of their cultures' art, history, and traditions. The center features a museum, a restaurant, gift shop, and a beautiful patio where and yard where they showcase the dances of the pueblos and host parties and events.

The motto of the center's restaurant, Pueblo Harvest, is "Native Sourced. Pueblo Inspired". The menu features local pueblo favorites like spiced corn, mashed yucca, sauteed cactus, and meats typically not offered other places in the region, like elk, bison, and rabbit.

Native art and pottery adorns the pueblo style building at almost every turn. While there are larger and more curated museums in Albuquerque, if you happen to passing through the city on a day that aligns with one of the Pueblo dances, a trip to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center is well worth your time.
